OK, the first word of the title of the film is "Revenge". Darth Maul, in Episode I, speaks of "at last" getting revenge on the Jedi.

Is the reason for this vengeance ever cleared up? What's the grudge?

Also, how bad is the scene where...

Anakin slaughters all the cute little Jedi kids? Is it as bad as the lifeless Anakin-slaughters-the-Sand-People scene from Episode II? This is hardly a spoiler, I don't think, because it's been published in at least a couple of reviews, but I'll be careful anyway.

There is no actual "revenge" on anyone or anything. It's just the sith rising up and taking over.

After leading the Clones into the temple for an attack, Anakin walks into a room (the council I believe) where all the little kids are hiding behind the chairs. One emerges and says "Anakin, there are too many of them. What do we do?" After a close-up of Anankin's face, it shows a shot of the kids in the background as Anakin ignites his lightsabre in the foreground before cutting away.

While that may sound as bad as the sandpeople scene, I personally found it much more effective because of how it was directed and cut. When Anakin killed the Tusken Raiders, it was poorly done; but in the case of the younglings, it was moody and chilling and in this case, less was definitely more. Well, that's my opinion anyway.
