Annie's decision to go to the dark side is very weak.
Very. Weak.

It's like this:

You have several million dollars in the bank. You have a great life and are a success in personal and business matters. You do, however, fear losing your dough. Your old boss gives you this line,

Boss---"Hey, I know a way to ensure you're never broke again. All we have to do is commit a Federal crime, risk EVERYTHING you hold dear and violate all that is good in the world to ensure you will always have money."

Dumb guy---"How will we do it?"

Boss---"We'll figure that out when the time comes. For now, slaughter a pre-school for me and burn down your church. Then we can talk."

Dumb guy---"Geez...that is asking a lot. I don't want to risk ever losing my money though. Okay. It's a deal. Should I burn first or do the school thing?"

Boss---It's up to you. But there is one caveat: I may or may not be able to do what I promise."

Dumb guy---"No problem. I'll sleep better knowing I tried. You're a neat friend. Are you sure you're looking out for my best interest?"

Boss---"Of course. Also I may need to empty all your accounts to begin with."

Dumb guy---"Wizard."

He wanted power! He wanted control! He respected Palpatine more than the Jedi!

Tell me, Lebowski, you remember that Luke almost turned to Darkisde in ROTJ?!

He didn`t even have half of Anakin`s reasons!

Oh, and Darkside is supernatural evil!

If you open to it once, it will forever twist your soul, letting all your inner demons emerge!

It is like devil, like a drug!

Obviously the Darkside doesn't forever dominate you, right Annie?

Plus, Luke was fighting for his sister whom Vader made a direct threat against seconds before he went medieval on his robotic ass. Annie had no imminent threat aginst himself or wife and was merely worried she would die. Weak reasons. It should have been more of a long, dark path. Justify it more and I could have bought it. If Padme were actually on the verge of death and he wanted to save her...fine. I could see that.

I can hear your whining through your typset.

Sorry. That was called for.

Whiner.

But Anakin believed that might makes right!

He was power hungry and lacked wisdom of true Jedi!

And he had this vision about his mother before, it wasn`t just a dream!

*************SPOILER************

Annie saw the Emperor trying to kill Windukoo...err...Winduvious....ahhhh...Sam Jackson. Why would he turn on a Jedi Master in danger? Weak.

<Bing>!! You may not whine about the cabin.

I agree that Anakin's turn to the Dark Side seems very sudden and very weak. As much as I hate AOTC Anakin, I confess that he did do a good job of showing parts of the Dark Side in him. In ROTS, Palpatine basically tells him how to stop one of his nightmares coming true, and Anakin stupidly agrees to it, even though it means betraying the entire galaxy and killing off all the Jedi except two.

The stupid thing is that Anakin turns to the Dark Side to stop Padme from dying. Okay, that's stupid in itself, but the worst thing is that, after turning to the Dark Side, Anakin tries to kill Padme. Idiot.

Difficult to see, the future is. Clouded by emotion. Or whatever. Point is he should have know better than to think it would happen regardless. Besides, if he cared so much for her, why ********************SPOILER*************************

would he choke her? Dufus. That's why. I'm going to E3 now. Later, Chaps.

Because Mace didn`t trust him, even many years ago!(remember this TPM Council scene?)

And Palpatine feeded his hungry ego!

I just realized this might not make sense. I went to E3 today. Not Episode III. E3 is the video game expo in Los Angeles--Electronics, Entertainment Expo.

As in EEE..or E3. Just to be clear.

Anakin is still a Dufus. And I can only see Leif Garret when I see him in this movie. Creepy.

That's very funny.

Gee....no. I guess I don't. thanks for ruining my life.

BTW, it was an analogy, mostly written out of humor. Let's not get too high and mighty and start to define our sense of morality over F-ing ROTS. This film is complete bubblegum. Would you define anyting based on observations of bubblegum? Maybe you would. I would not.

This is a "fun" forum and not one which we need to over emphasize the meanings. My intent was to relate the fact that his decision to go DARK was a contradiction to what he was trying to protect by doing it. My little "story" was a blunt attempt to exaggerate this point. I assumed it was obvious. My bad.

I am still correct, however. My good.

""his decision to go DARK was a contradiction to what he was trying to protect by doing it. ""

That is the beauty of his fall... the sadism in the whirlwind.

My point is that it was not a powerful anough REASON to do it.
It is a common theme in tragedy that the hero's actions contradict what he is trying to protect.

Impactful tragedy builds it up to that moment where the hero must choose that path.

This movie presented it as a whim, alomst. Stop trying to take off the perceived blinders you believe I have on. My whole point is that it is a WEAK BUILD UP TO MAKE SUCH AN IMPACTFUL DECISION. Lucas' whole effort and time should have been spent building that tension and drama. It should be the F-ING dénouement of the film. Presente din its current form it is an unmotivated betrayal that if to be believed, we are faced with the fact that Annie is a dufus.

Dufus.
