Hi. I'm the new guy.

This may have already been discussed, but is anyone NOT going to see Revenge of the Sith, on principle alone?

After Phantom Menace, I deluded myself into thinking Episode II would be better. For me, it was even WORSE than TPM. So after Attack of the Clones, I decided I wasn't going to give Lucas any more of my money.

But I suspect my curiosity will get the best of me.

Or maybe I can remain strong.

if i boycott it everyone else will go see it anyway.

then they will say "how can you condemn a film without seeing it?"

and i'll say: "precedent!!!"

and they'll say: "but exorcist 3 was better than 2!!!"

and I'll say: "hmmm... you bastards that's right."

so either way i have to see it so i can tell people why they suck for liking it!

the number of people willing to boycot, are too few. so fuck it!
i'm going to go see it... and i'm going to see it first. they way, if it is as bad as the others, i'm going to spoil the fuck out of it!

Exorcist: The Beginning, is a really scary movie. Better than the others.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not kidding myself into believing that a "boycott" would really have any effect on the movie's box office returns. I'd do it more for a sense of personal satisfaction than anything.

But I have heard a few other people mention that they're going to make a concerted effort NOT to see it. So that kind of inspires me in the inconsequential way that only not seeing a movie can inspire.

I'm not planning on seeing it. It'll come out on video eventually anyway. There's just no good reason to see it on the big screen - I don't care about Lucas's special-effects scenes.

Maybe just one of us should go see it and report back.

BTW, Star_Wars_Is_Us, where do you get all those avatars? You've changed yours like five times in a week.

I just search around for them all over the internet. *shrugs* I like changing my avatar and signature. I'll keep it like it is for a while, though. I like it right now.

Good. That's one less person who is a hypocrite. A lot of people could learn from him.

You could compromise and just not see it opening week. That's what I plan on doing.

You could tell me about this boycott before i bought tickets for midnight screening for me and my girlfriend, over a month ago!

What a pity that I can`t participate in this noble project! laugh.gif

I would like to see a transcript if possible. I am curious to see what Lucas has written. I'm much less curious about what he's put up on screen for us to see - tediously choreographed lightsabre fights, Ian McDiarmid in very bad makeup, Jimmy Smits in an outfit that would embarrass an SCA fanatic, computer generated backgrounds and scenery in every shot, Hayden Christensen's whining - I don't need to pay to see that.

I will, however, grill all my friends in Seattle who will undoubtedly see the movie and get the full story from them.

I wasn't going to see TPM, but a friend bought tickets for the opening day midnight madness, and I admit curiosity got the better of me.

I still haven't seen AOTC.

I won't see ROTS.

Do you even need to see the movies? I've done my best to avoid any spoilers, however, there are a few factors that make me reasonably sure I know 90% of what will happen in the new movie.
  • This movie has an obvious ending (i.e. Anakin will become Vader, Palpy will become Emperor, many Jedi will die, etc.)
  • Being involved even in a spoiler free community there is far too much ROTS talk going on to avoid knowing the basics of the plot. Add this with even Google News posting articles about the movies, hundreds of advance reviews and sites like TFN and starwars.com having tons of info on new characters, etc.
  • Ever single food item, product and fast food restaurant is completely covered with Star Wars characters, scenes and facts.

Will Brooker had a bit in his book, Using the Force where he discusses this phenomenon (and this was 2001-02) and he pretty much highlights the entire plot synopsis of AOTC before its release.
