I am making this thread, as a fun critique. I have given reasons for loving Empire Strikes Back, and have awarded certain points for each thing that I love about it. When the review is over, I add up all the points, and that is how many points ESB will get. I will go back and do this with ANH, and then ROTJ, also. Anything that makes it on the list automatically gaines +5 points.

Classic = Auto 10 points
Darth Vader malice = Auto 5 points
Great Dialogue = Auto 5 points

REASONS TO LOVE 'THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK'


* It is a good name. Catchy, easy to say... the name fits the movie. (+5)

* The snowy planet of Hoth. A great setting, and introduction of a new system in the galaxy. (Classic. +10 +5)

* The Wampa. Like the abominable snowman, this creature is... abominable. (+5)

* The snow speeders. Those things are awesome... kinda wanna pilot one of them myself. Better than a sled! (+5)

* Imperial March. This theme music really adds to the malice of Darth Vader. (Malice. +5 +5)

* The choking of Admiral Hozzle (name spelling?), and later on, Captain Needa. Adds, again, to the malice of Darth Vader. (Malice. +5 +5 +5)

* AT-ST walkers. You have to admit, these things are pretty cool, and they are original. (+5)

* The overall Battle of Hoth. The combat is driven by realistic strategies of war. The battle makes you feel like you are there. (Classic. +10 +5 +5)

*The tripping of AT-ST by means of detachable cables on the snow speeders. This is original. (Classic. +10 +5)

* The AT-ATs. These are also cool... and original. (Classic. +10 +5)

* The Millenium Falcon outmanuevering the Star Destroyers and Imperial Fighters when leaving for rondezvous with the other rebels. (+5)

* The asteroid field. This was neat, seeing the Mill. Falcon dodging the asteroids while at the same time trying to shake the Imperial Fighters. (Classic. +10 +5)

* The planet Dagobah, is my favorite planet in the Star Wars galaxy besides Tatooine. I like the swampy, creepy terraine, with the looming trees, vines, reptiles, etc. (+5)

* Yoda's introductory humour. (Classic. +10 +5)

* Conversation between Vader and the Emporer. Not only is it scary and menacing, but it shows us the motives of the two Sith. (Classic. Dialogue. +10 +5 +5)

* The Mill. Falcon flying out of the giant worm. (Classic. +10 +5)

* Yoda training Luke in the ways of a Jedi. (Classic. Dialogue. +10 +5 +5)

* Luke fighting the illusion of Darth Vader, and finding his own face when the mask explodes. (+5)

* Mill. Falcon hiding along with the trash to escape. (+5)

* Yoda making the X-Wing rise from the swamp with the power of the force. (Classic. Dialogue. +10 +5 +5)

* The cloud cruisers! (+5)

* Special Edition of Cloud City views. (+5)

* The character of Lando, and his personality. (+5)

* Han, Leia, Chewy walking in the dining quarters to find Darth Vader standing at the other end of the table. (Classic. Dialogue. +10 +5 +5)

* The overall ultimate betrayal of Lando handing his friends over to the Empire. (+5)

* 'I love you!'... "I know." (Dialogue. +5 +5)

* Carbonite Freeze. (Classic. Malice. +10 +5 +5)

* The mysterious character of Boba Fett. (+5)

* The overall ultimate lightsaber duel! Luke VS Vader. Awesome moves, awesome dialogue, and awesome suspense! (Classic(x2)Dialogue(x2)Malice. +10 +10 +5 +5 +5 +5)

* Luke getting his hand chopped off. (+5)

* 'No, Luke. I am your father.' (Classic(x2)Dialogue(x2)Malice. +10 +10 +5 +5 +5 +5)

* The fight during lightsaber battle. Leia, Chewy, Lando VS Stormtroopers. (+5)

* Luke letting himself fall down the spiral, rather than join Vader. (+5)

* The rest of the movie afterwards. (+5)

Due to lack of popularity of this contest thingy, I have decided that I will NOT do ANH and ROTJ, because there would be no sense in me wasting my precious time, that I could use persueing other Star Wars work. BUT: Does anyone have anything at all to say about my report?

Don't forget the other bounty hunters: Bossk, IG-88, Dengar . . .

Two-one-B, the medical droid, is kinda cool.

That creepy scene where Admiral Piet watches the helmet being lowered onto Vader's head.

Vader blocking Han Solo's lasers with his hand, then yanking the blaster away from him using the force: in my opinion, the coolest single scene in all the SW movies.

And how about the Imperial probe droid on Hoth? That thing was cool.

Your report was very thorough. I'd be willing to bet that if you scored the other movies, Empire would come out way ahead.

Alright. Primetime, since you posted here, I will indeed do the other movies. ANH and ROTJ will be up on the forums soon. And I will also revise this one, adding the things which you suggested, along with some things that I found after watching the movie when I was through with this piece. Yesterday, I was mad, and lazy. Do not take my words seriously in matters such as that, I usually do not give up so quickly.

Nice job on the scoring. I know this may sound stupid. But could you do a report on Episode III? You don't need to do the other prequels, since I know practically all of this board, except me, hates them. So, an Episode III one would be nice, since it's releasing tomorrow.

I have read most the ROTS script, so I know all that is going to happen. Yes, after I am done with ANH & ROTJ, by then I should be able to see ROTS, and I will do a scoring on that. Though, I can't promise that it will have many points.
