There's something about watching AOTC on a small screen that drives home the crappiness. When I first saw it in the theaters, I actually liked it. Then, months later, I decided to watch it on DVD. I could not believe my eys. Horrible scene after horrible scene...bad acting, stupid jokes, and whole lines of dialogue lifted from the OT. In my shock and confusion, I stumbled across Chefelf's list, and all was revealed to me. biggrin.gif

Know what you mean. I used to rent a flat from a friend of mine and have recently moved out. Last night I discovered that I inadvertently have her son's Video of Clones and so popped it into my VCR. However, I could not get beyond the sand chat up line. Everything is truly awful about this film, the dialogue, the acting, the script, the plot, EVERYTHING.

Interesting that Lucas considers that the current trilogy to be his best work. He stated in a recent interview in The Guardian, a national newspaper in the UK, that currently websites and the media are controlled by the older fans, which is why everyone compared the PT to the OT, and found the PT wanting. However, in about 20 years time he claimed, this would be the reversed because his younger fans who preferred the current trilogy over the original one would be in control of the media and so his prequels would become the favoured trilogy and he would be vindicated for CGI etc.

However, from what most of you are saying regarding watching Attack of the Clones on the small screen, Lucas just makes himself sound more of a dumbass than usual

I think the the aspect which rings most ture about AOTC is how CGI really is boring.

IN the OT, fewer models were used and as a result you could follow the events. AOTC took information overload to new extremes. SO much happened and yet at the same time nothing happened. The whole clone war was just so utterly boring.

TPM did nothing for the saga, the plot was lame, and the antics of Anakin and Jar Jar sealed the fate of the film. Having said that, the space scene was easy to follow and the sabre battles were also well done.

AOTC had all the negative traits of TPM but none of the positive. The light sabre battles were not 'real', and impossible to follow, ditto for the clone battle. So much STUFF was going on that following any of it was useless. Screen shots lasted less than 1 second, things were blowing up and dust was flying lasers were fireing etc...

It was a mess!

Also regarding CGI, does it strike any one as odd that after 20 years, the models of ESB and ROTJ still look good, where as old and dated CGI looks like absolute shit? Well does it? Remember the X-wing CGI revision in the first re-release of ANH? I saw a clip of it on the documentary DVD that came with the OT, it looked terrible, and it's only 6 years old!!!! And the CGI Jabba! HE looks terrible, that stupid puppet, after 20 years, is much more impressive.

CGI does not stand the test of time. When the technolgy gets better, we'll look back at it as being campy and fake. Not like the models used in the early films.

Right now the CGI in the Prequels I don't think can hold a candle to the OT models. And that aint' just the stubborn traditionalist in me - you compare the space battle in Jedi to anything in Clones, and Jedi is far superior.

As for Jabba, ya I mentioned in another thread how downright fake and stupid he looks in the Prequels. His movement sucks when he slithers onto the balcony for the Podrace, his face looks dumb, the puppet rules over the CGI version.

Watch the movie again, and actually learn from it. The Clones are all explained. Read the book Lybrinth of Evil, it explains everything about Syfo Dias. Actually sit down and watch the movie, without being so god damn objective.

Syfo Dias... sounds like a criminal from Puerto Rico, baby!

The CGI in Attack of the Clones wasn't just overloaded. The entire film is really just one giant cartoon with live-action actors in it. There's no reason to animate a waterfall, or a diner, for God's sake. Instead of looking like a Star Wars film, it looked more like:

I can see why Lucas might be interested in CGI as a possible means of special effects technology, and he could make other films that play around and experiment with it, but why with Star Wars?

Here's a great way to make Yoda's lightsaber-fight in AOTC bearable:

1. Go to www.Runescape.com

2. Make an account

3. At the exact moment Yoda pulls out his lightsaber, start playing "Gnome Theme."

I found it incredibly funny. His jumping connects well with the music.
