You may all be wondering what the hell has happened... that I, an adamant prequel basher, am going on about the prequels now...

But I've worked out Palpatine's scheme and it is total genius!

Okay, here it is:

1. Palpatine assassinates the most prominent members of the Jedi council. Yoda escapes but Palpatine manages to pursue his ship. Yoda is forced to crash land on Dagobah and Palpatine leaves him there marooned.

2. Palpatine sets up a group of imposters in the Jedi council's place.

3. The imposters undermine the effectiveness of the Republic's security by sitting around pretending to meditate.

4. They corrupt the young boy Anakin by being total jerks to him, which leads to him becoming a total jerk himself ... making it much easier to persuade him to join the dark side.

5. If any younger Jedi question the imposters about all the strange things that are going on and their apparent lack of concern, Palpatine instructs the imposters to use the following line "The dark side of the force is clouding our vision."

6. Once the Republic is totally weakened by these imposters who undermine everything it once stood for, Palpatine makes his big take over, which we will see very soon in Episode III.

And then that leaves just one last question...

How did he convert Anakin to the Dark Side?

Well, I did some investigations of my own and I've found out that what Palpatine does is actually remarkably simple but like the rest of his plan, is also incredibly cunning...

"You want this, don't you?"

JYAMG... ugh, this really does make sense now, doesn't it... You would corrupt me too with a bar of plain 90% of cocoa....(enter the name of local manufacturer) bar.

I am utterly narked by the unanimous praise of the ROTS by all the reviews. Those who criticise are few and far between. Everybody goes on how brilliant the film is.. BUt the question which has been nagging me: is it going to make any sense at all?

I have found one review with spoilers which actually says it does not...

I have to see for myself, to solution to the droid question - how come nobody recognises them. Or the question how stupid you need to be to hide someone in the obvious place like Tatooine...

Here is the link to the spoilerific article I mentioned:

I'll read the article more in depth later, got to get ready for work and all.

I like that picture of the Emperor with the chocolate bar. Chocolate and the dark side go together so well, and like the Dark Side, chocolate can take a toll on your appearance. alien.gif

Hey, most films don`t make sense after you nitpick like this! This is only Fantasy! Did OT made that much sense actually? Did Ewoks made sense?

The trick is, you can criticize every movie if you want to, and find dozens of mistakes in it (especially the Hollywood movies).

The problem with that defense, LM, which everyone uses when someone criticises a film, is that you didn't defend the story anywhere. You haven't shown how because not all films make sense, this one now does, or how it doesn't matter because it makes just as much sense as all the others, which are equally whimsical.

The argument can be made, mind you. It's just you haven't made it, and if you had I'd disagree. The OT is dumb, and ends badly, but it made enough sense to get by. The PT I wouldn't use to wash a hog.

Actually, the story of the Prequels wasn`t that bad, there were more problems with execution.

I think that AOTC would be great with better actting/love plot between Anakin and Padme, better editing, and more exposition to Dooku.

Another problem: Jedi Order was supposed to have flaws in PT, otherwise it would make no sense for them to lose to the Sith, from storytelling point of view. And Republic was in big crisis, just like Germany before Hitler!

JYAMG, I hope you'll forgive me nicking your thread, but here is another review I found:

http://film.guardian...1482359,00.html

And here are some excerpts :

"Once again, McGregor speaks in a simperingly lifeless Rada-English accent, a muddled and misconceived backdating of the Guinness original - the young fogey with the light-sabre. In boringness he is matched by that Jedi master of woodenness: Hayden Christensen, the flatliner to end all flatliners"

Good, means I am not the only one who does not swoon about the Ewan's acting...

" As an actor Christensen must show the terrible embryo of future wickedness within himself. And how does he do this? By tilting his head down, looking up through lowered brows and giving the unmistakable impression that he is very, very cross. If Princess Diana had gone to the Dark Side, she would have looked a lot like this"

Now, I'shoud;ve thought about this. Princess Diana... so that's what he looks like, with that hair...

"With sub-Shakespearian gravitas, McGregor intones: "Not even the younglings survived." I'm sorry, not even the what? Is that their surname or something? Are Mr and Mrs Youngling going to come home to find a nursery bloodbath?"

No need to comment there...

I liked that article, but I wasn't aware that Christopher Lee's performance in AOTC was "terrific". He sounded embarrassed in some of his scenes, not that I blame him.

Anyway, the article made a number of good points, from bad acting to artificial drama to overblown CGI.

For what it's worth, JYAMG, I did get it. I was going to write something that said, "oh how I wish something like this had been done... at least it would add some kind of twist that would have me laughing"

Alas... maybe we're all just too worked up...
