I need help, I have no idea which instant messager system I should use. So which on is better, MSN or AIM. Or more importantly which one do you use?

I use both. Each have their faults, but each have home-brewed plugins to fix these faults.

Plugins? Problems...fixed?!? Gimme!

And uh, I use both of them too. I also have YIM, but I only use it in emergencies (If MSN and AIM crash at the same time sleep.gif; )

For the record, I wanna state that MSN's Chat Rooms are superior (They're much easier to start than AIM's) , and you can change your name at any time. But AIM is more stable overall. MSN does this annoying this sometimes where it won't send your message. If it's REALLY being a dick, it'll wait several minutes before telling you the message didn't send.

Because I'm so very very bored, here are my user names. Feel free to look me up.

MSN: rock_dash@hotmail.com
AIM: MsmrRock
I finally got a sig!

Well, with MSN, there's the obvious Messenger Plus, which gets rid of banner ads and adds some customizable features (ie: window transparency, which I make use of). The only snag is that you have to be careful when installing it, otherwise you wind up with a load of adware on your system.

For AIM, I used a little app called "Aim Mutation" or something for a while that ditched the ads and let you tweak the settings a bit. It was alright, but I don't use AIM that much, so I got rid of it for the sake of clearing some space.

I'd personally prefer to use AIM, but the only person I talk to on there is Jane, so I'm forced to run with MSN and his 8million stupid-ass smilies. I wonder when Microsoft is going to realise that before we want another stupid picture of a yellow man rolling his eyes, we want to be able to format our text?

I always use MSN. I don't really trust other IMs, and I'm too scared to venture into new territory. It's alright, I guess.

That's what I'm saying. It blows Trillian out of the water.

My Trillian may be buggy. It may not receive messages from people using any version of MSN except for one invented in september of 1997 by the inmates of a guatemalan insane asylum. It may have an octopus emoticon. But damn it, I'm sticking with Trillian!

AARGH GAIM DOESN'T WORK!! MAIM!

It seems my network doesn't support "tunnelling". Well, glad I'm rid of it next week...

Chyld:

Try changing the Pager Port in the Account editor under "Show more options" to 20, 23, 25, 80, 119, 5050, 8001, or 8002.

Any luck?

Nope, no matter which port I try running it through, that port cannot have a crack at tunnelling. I'll just have to wait until I'm home then...
