So true! Nothing that man says can be taken seriously or with weight.

I'll go so far as to say that the Ewoks, cuddly and commercial as they are, might still have worked in a good story. I think it's possible that 4' furry creatures can still be credibly threatening given the right weapons Lucas did not give us that, though. Instead he gives us Stormtroopers with not a trace of military discipline who walk by dumb luck into improbably elaborate booby-traps (the "Fallacy of the Predictable Tree") and who scream like babies when under fire from small rocks and arrows and spears that'd have a difficult time punching through a sheet of newsprint.

Naw. I don't think they would make for a good story under ANY circumstance. But, I could be wrong. Maybe they could have appeared in Star Trek, and done a better job. Could you picture that? Ewoks in Star Trek? Has anyone ever thought of that?

i am still seriously going to find a few little people or just my 5 year old cousins, stuff them in ewok suits, and take video of them operating a mortar, spotting with binoculars and radioing coordinates, hiding inthe underbrush with a sniper rifle, and running through the trees with an anti-armor launcher.

I will then get my own ass and a random friend's ass into a stormtrooper suit, and film us falling over or getting launched in the air by a springboard. (in front of a greenscreen if necessary)

I will then send the digital shots to a compy friend, who will add the required special effect laser blast and explosions.

I will then replace the scene of Wicket whacking himself in the forehead with his slingshot, and other stupid scenes, with my own footage.

I will then be able to sleep at night.

I saw about 15 frames of wookiees in a tv trailer. They look like savages to me, with spears and crossbows. I think some of them were even wearing leather hats a la the Ewoks. I think I am going to be right about this one ...

Lucas is canibalising his own old ideas to an extent beyond reason.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

From what I've heard Han and Lando are the only ones from OT who are NOT going to be in the PT. Funny how they should escape the checklist of Lucas to include everyone who would make a nice action figure. A Wookie action figure is too good an opportunity to miss isn't it? With hat and crossbow, it is almost perfect...

And are we the only ones left who actually mind this? I mean look at the reviews...

Today tomatometer is at 86%, great, there are more rotten reviews to read...

Did you read Peter Travers review at rollingstone.com?

Brutal honesty. It's beautiful.
