This is the message of the Prequels: The Jedi are complete and utter morons. The Republic's leaders are complete and utter morons. Palpatine is not quite so much of a moron, ergo he wins by default. All the philosophical crap which Lucas's apologists have dreamed up bears no relation to what we actually see in the films; it might have worked if someone else had written them, but they didn't and it doesn't.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

A note on Anakin: he was not forced into becoming a Jedi, but I highly doubt he knew exactly what it would entail. Especially when he hit puberty and was confronted with commands from his superiors to detach himself from his feelings. As I noted, the Jedi mean well, but their methods smack of the techniques of a life-denying cult.

Again, not something shown in the PT (about his feelings that is), and again, Anakin is counter to the person he is TPM. AND you can't say all teens are like this just because they hit puberty. I'm good friends with all of my stepson's teenage friends. I DM for them. (And they don't act like Anakin---in fact, for being 16, they are FAR more mature than Anakin). AND the way Anakin acts in AOTC is completely counter to the way he is described by Ben in ANH: "...and a good friend..." or in ROTJ, "...the good man who was your father..."

And.."smack of the techniques of a life-denying cult..."

This is how we should interpret the Jedi? This is what we should've been thinking during the OT (before the PT was made)? I don't think so..... something is very, very wrong.... Lucas' interpretation is WRONG.

My larger point is being overlooked in all this hassle about particulars -- the plotline of the PT is actually not so bad, it's a pretty good story that complements the OT, and in a broad outline, has alot of potential. We will be better able to judge the other two PT movies on the 19th.

But ALL of these "particulars" take away from any plot... (and there are plot holes anyway) How can one "enjoy" a film when it is surrounded and infected by all this other crap... plots and stories need characters, and if the characters are unlikeable and characters do things that are believable. TPM and AOTC can only be enjoyed in the most superficial of ways.

Edit: Oh, I just noticed this. Yes, your inner child is dead. Dead as a doornail. Just like mine. That's why I'm writing stupid posts about the mythological implications of a bunch of SF movies instead of running around having imaginary lightsaber fights.

LOL!! Thanks... day has been made.

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.
