My sister gave me a deck of tarot cards for Christmas. They are shiny smile.gif
Head Gunner for the Royal Sloop Crimson Steel, Queen of the Dead, Instigator of Chaos and Confusion, Knight of the Grand Recursive Order of the Lambda Calculus, and also The Non.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....

Ah, splendid timing to raise the thread! Please can you do me a nice general reading, Mr Icey?

It occurs to me that this is a little bit random and after the fact, but can "Death" ever actually mean death, or is it just good luck that the card showing up in my reading for the coming year and an actual death coincided?

Yeah. Um. A little out of the blue, but I was curious.
"YOU'RE MISSING A PERIOD. YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY, DON'T YOU? YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY THAT YOU FUCK WITH GRAMMAR? WELL, FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR MISSING PERIOD! I HOPE IT MEANS YOUR SLUTTY, NON-PUNCTUATED WAYS HAVE GOTTEN YOU TEEN-PREGNANT!"

Death means a big change. What that change is depends on where in the layout it occurs. It could mean death, but doesn't have to.

If the death that happened made a pretty significant change in your life, then it could have been what your card was referring to. If not, then probably not.

We should totally revive this thread. Tarot is fun, for one thing - and I'm getting out of practice, for another! Anyone interested in a reading? I have 3 - no wait, 2 different decks (forgot that I gave one to a good friend). But they'll surely let me borrow it back, so 3 decks to choose from; the Witch Fairy or something like that Tarot, the Avalon deck (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/avalon/), and my very favourite, the Fairy Ring Oracle deck (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/fairy-ring-oracle/) which is quite different from a normal tarot deck.

Anyone?

I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

Actually Ms Poetic, if you're offering, I'd like you to do me a reading relating to my current ladypiece. Her names Lucy, and I'd like a nice spread on the theme of love about her. If you need more things to work from (Iceman needed some stuff to do good readings) I can PM you some stuff to work with.

Hooray!!!
Well, first, if you guys could both pick the deck - I decided not to use my friend's one, though, too hard to have to get it from him, return it, blah. So the Avalon Tarot deck is your traditional tarot, with the traditional Major and Minor Arcana. My Fairy Ring Oracle deck is a different kind of divination deck, where it "calls upon" various fey and other little creatures that come from the British Isles. (See the links in my last post.) I love the Fairy Oracle deck but most people prefer the traditional tarot.

And Chyld, though it's not necessary, it would be nice to have a little b it of info on your current situation. It just kinda helps the interpretation be less general, and can be a bit of a guide. smile.gif

Gobbler, any specifics on your reading?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the question, "how does it work." Well, you don't need to bother with the specifics of how divination itself works, but if you want to know, there are good sites out there. But what I need you to do is ask a question. Not too general ("what will my future be like") but not too specific ("who will I marry"). You can pick a spread if you'd like, but if you leave it up to me, I'll pick the one I think best suits your question, or I'll use the traditional Celtic Cross spread. (A spread is the pattern the cards are laid out in.) Normally I'd have you shuffle the cards, but since this is over the internet, I'll have to do that part... obviously. Then I lay them out and interpret. smile.gif

O~~~ky dokey~~, umm, let's see...

Who will I marry? tongue.gif

Okay, okay, a serious question... will things stay as cool as they are right now among me and my friends, or will I have to intervene soon?
For you see, there's some little arguing occurring between them every now and then, with me right in the middle for most of the time as a negotiator, since I can't be bothered to join any side of these (in my opinion mostly mindless and unnecessary) quarrels. Lately life has been rather tough to some of my friends and they all appear to be a little on the edge, so... what do the cards say?
A temporary +3 for my diplomacy skills and/or a sixty to one hundred percent chance of facing a time of peace and tranquility in sight sure would brighten my day. biggrin.gif

Oh, forgot to choose a deck. Well, since you like the Fairy Ring Oracle that much, why don't we go with that one?

Right. I'm starting with Otal because his will be the easiest; I'll give you a 3-card spread with the traditional tarot deck for your general reading.

Please, everyone forgive me for being rusty at this. But I believe that a good deal of divination comes from who I'm divining to, as they use my interpretations of the cards as guidance through their own conscious and subconscious to make their own applications to their life. So, I'm not even the all-important one in a divination. But I still haven't done this in a long time so I may be way off. tongue.gif

Card One: The Past
Ace of Swords; reversed
The ace of swords represents clear thinking, problem solving, reasoning. Its reversal implies that in the past, things were muddled - maybe you couldn't find the solution to a problem, or something was keeping you from being able to be objective when you needed to be.

Card Two: The Present
6 of Cups
Ah, one of my favourite cards. This card represents innocent, pure, maybe even childlike goodness. Being content, carefree, secure, and an overall feeling of goodwill. However, this card could represent a false security; being "blissfully ignorant" of the true situation. I'm not really getting a feeling one way or the other on this one.

Card Three: The Future
Queen of Swords
Well, what do you know. The Queen of Swords here is facing, discovering, recognizing, or admitting the truth. So I think that confirms that the 6 of Cups is you being contentedly unaware of something, or maybe even subconsciously in denial about it.

So, from my limited knowledge of you, and from what the cards say, I believe that maybe there was a problem in the past somewhere, and you thought you solved it. Well, through whatever reason, it was the wrong solution and you're unaware that there are still problems. Or maybe the past and present cards are unrelated, but there is something that you're ignorant of, and you're content like that. You'll end up needing to embrace that truth to move forward in life.

Whew, that was harder than I thought it would be. My poor, dusty cards! I won't neglect you again. sad.gif
