Many of you are likely aware of my stance regarding remakes. I hate them. "Dawn Of The Dead", "The Amityville Horror", etc. Few movies actually require any sort of update at all. This however, has me very excited. Burton's style has transferred into Dahl's world very well, and Johnny Depp makes one helluva Willy Wonka. I won't be there opening day, but I really am looking forward to this particular bit of film.

I'm quite excited about it as well. My friends don't understand why. I say it's by Tim Burton. They look at me strangley. I call them Philistines and storm off dry.gif

It doesn't look too promising, but if everyone likes it, I'll go see it.

Anyone else heard of another new movie by Tim Burton? I can't remember the title, but I saw the trailer for it in HGTTG. Same style as Nightmare, but not the same characters.

That, good sir, would be The Corpse Bride

As for Willy Wonka, all my friends are outraged about it, but I refuse to judge until I actually see it. I have to admit though, it's gonna be hard as hell not to compare it to the original film.

That's why they called it "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory", which I believe is the original title for the book. As far as I know, it's not a remake of the original film adaptation, rather it's a new and unique take on the book. I heard something about how Burton was trying to make it a little more like the book (whimsical, yet still dark in Dahl's unique way) than the original film. I referred to it as a remake of the film simply because...well...when someone mentions Willy Wonka, which comes to mind first? The movie has definitely gained more recognition than the book, as unfortunate as that is.
And Floppydisk, if you judge movies by what everyone else says about them, then you shouldn't be watching them at all.

What I meant to say was that if you guys think it's good, I'll go see it, because most of you have good taste. I currently don't care too much about it because I wasn't very impressed by the trailer. And even if everyone here liked it, that doesn't mean that I will.

Ashamed as I am to say it, I never read the book. I tried once, really! But the beginning is so depressing. Let's just say that at the time I read it, it hit a little too close to home. But with the new movie coming out, I should give it another shot.

I never read the book either, but that was because the movie frightened me so much as a little kid I could never bring myself to look at it. But I plan to rectify this problem this very weekend when I get home.

I can't wait for the movie to come, both because I am a rabid Johnny Depp fangirl, and it looks absolutely amazing. If I can help it, I'm going to be in line for the very first showing the very first day it comes out.

And I can't stop wondering, in the book, is Veruca a "bad egg" or a "bad nut"?

NOTE: I read somewhere recently when I was looking for quotes that Dahl was actually quite pissed off about what they did with the original movie...

Jariten - At the bottom of the credits it says "Music by Danny Elfman". I don't know if Depp can top Gene Wilder, but since it's a different director, we'll see.

Although that song creeps me right out. So much happyness... *shudder*

I'm suprised you American lads and lassies(Beautiful American lassies *slobber*) actually know about the book. I thought Roald Dahl was unknown in America. Do you know about the sequel? What I want to know is when will the make a movie of the sequel? Am I the only person on the planet who has read the fucking thing? Its called "Charlie and the great Glass Elevator". (Might have to change the name for a film adaption I guess. It sounds kinda gay.) It was even better than the first book! Yes believe me its possible to be better than the great "Charlie and the Choclate Factory"! It was incredibly dark and distressing too. I'll briefly summarise the sequel for the benefit of the marvelous quirky eccentric lovable part of my audience known as "Americans". Oh yeah, and an American accent on a woman is hot! FUCKING HOT! Can I father your future children Ms. Sherwood? Please? Please please please? No. *sigh* I should have never offended you by even asking. Please forgive me. I've been a naughty little boy. I should be punished severly. I think you should spank me. No, I'm being serious. Look I've got the paddle right here, see? You're not that angry with me? *VD "accidently" breaks old family heirloom belonging to Jane* How about now?

Ahem. Sorry about that folks. Don't know what came over me. I'm probably lacking starch or something. Yeah that must be it. *Phew! Nice save VD!*

Anyway, FINALLY back on topic. Summarisation is as follows. It's been a long time since i've read it, so please forgive me if I get it wrong. If I mislead you in anyway, you can spank me if you like. *SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID LITTLE TWAT!!!!*

Ahem. Lack starch. Here it is.

SPOILER alert! SPOILER alert! SPOILER alert! SPOILER alert!

After leaving factory in said elevator, Charlie and Wonka go get Charlies family and, for some reason, take them into space. In space, you nice American boyos (And girlos *slobber* Um..just trying to ease the pain of a mouth ulcer. Thats all. THATS ALL!!!), have launched the worlds first space hotel. Wonka heads straight for it and enters. Hotel already swarming with evil dark slimy hideous telepathic genocidal alien monsters. Monsters look like giant black olives with one eye. They can slowly change shape between olives and slimy worms of same colour and texture. A couple of them use this ability to spell the message "You're all going to fucking DIE!" or something nice and friendly like that. Wonka beats worms, forget how, *Spanking! Spanking!* and everyone returns to factory to celebrate. After that they travel to the afterlife, yes the afterlife, to track down one of the grandparents who has died. No, scratch that, the grandparent took one of Wonkas pills and is reversed aged until they are minus 247 years old. Grandparent now in limbo. Limbo full of ghastly insubstantial invisible things called nulls. If a null bites you, you go through horrendous agony as you suffer from the death throws of long division, until you becom a minus. You become a null. Thats all I can remember.

PS: If you got the impression from the above post that I'm a sad little submissive freak waiting impatiently for the day when The Glorious Feminist Revolution finally starts and Women take their rightful place as leaders of this world, and all men are forced to serve their new Love Godesses 24 hours a day 7 days a week *slobber*, then um.. I'm not. Not! NOT NOT NOT! *Christ, I didn't do meself any favours there. How do I edit this thing? Oh no. OH NO! EDIT TIME EXPIRED! ARAAAAAGH!!!! MY HUMILIATING LITTLE SECRET IS OUT THERE FOR THE WHOLE OF CHEFELF TO SEE!!!!!!!!!*

I'll um..I'll go now. Unless you need anything else from your little man bitch Mistress Sherwood.

Of course we know Rohl Dahl. Since you mention it, I should find some of his books. I remember that our teacher read us The BFG in third grade, and forbade us from laughing at the farts (She was a mean old bitch).

And uh, VD? No offense, but uh...you're coming off a little creepy there. What with the uh...well, perversion and all there...yeah. Tone it down a little, man.

Jariten: I never said the first version was bad, it was just such a huge deviation from the novel. I do like the original movie, but the book tops it off by more than a smidge.
Floppydisk: My point still stands.
VD: I never read "Charlie And The Glass Elevator", but that's mostly because it's not that easy to come by around here. I don't know that I've even seen a copy of it outside of my elementary school library.

VD, tell me...what the hell are you on, man?

I'm more familiar with Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator, I think. I remember borrowing it from my friends and skimming through it when I was ten (only skimming because I was still apprehensive about the subject in general). I think I remember one part where they were telling a story about a little girl her stole her grandmother or someone's pills or something, thinking they were candy, and getting seriously fucked up from them.

And here's the tidbit from IMDB I was talking about:

QUOTE
Roald Dahl was reportedly so angry with the treatment of his book (mainly stemming from the massive rewrite by David Seltzer) that he refused permission for the book's sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, to be filmed. Seltzer had an idea for a new sequel, but legal issues meant that it never got off the ground.

Check out my crappy drawings!
