"I disagree, i think there was NO POTENTIAL in the PT."

It had potential since the end of The Empire Strikes Back.

"I feel it's a story that should never been told. A better movie would have been, heck, KOTOR 1. "

Do you perhaps have an unwavering obsession for Knights of the Old Republic? I thought the video game was good, yes. But to apply it to this discussion is... I don't know the word. Not really childish... more like... irrelevant. KOTOR doesn't make that much sense, without the knowledge of what happened in the prequels. If you want to take a step WAY back in the past, as you suggest, why not take it in smaller steps?

I love the way DOKU half heartedly sighs when OBI WAN says "I'll never Join You"

It's like: "yeah whatever... smell you later...."

also....

why does Obi Wan not trust him? SOunded like a good offer to me...
DOKU:"dude you nearly blew my cover"
OBIWAN: "your evil, jedi's can't act, therefore you must be evil if your talking with droid makers"

QUOTE (Mnesymone @ May 3 2005, 03:55 AM)
Then he would have told Yoda and Mace, and they would have sat on cushions and gone "Hmmm"

But Obi-wan does tell Mace and Yoda what Dooku told him. At the end of AOTC he says (to mace and yoda):

"Do you believe what count dooku said about Sidious (!) controlling the senate?"

To which Yoda replies:

"Joined the dark side, dooku has. Lies, deceit, creating mistrust are his ways now"

Obviously implying that he thinks Dooku is lying - while this was the one time he was telling the truth! I really don't like the Yoda character in the PT, comes off as a smartass, and dumb to boot.

Mace Replies:

"Nevertheless, I feel we should keep a closer eye on the senate."

Which is supposedly what they do until ROTS.

"Hmmm... I'm getting a feeling that not all is well with young Jar Jar... the dark side has taken him.... Mighty Assassin Super Grover Spinning Ninja Tennis Ball attack him, I must."

Still - two things - the Federation had a seat on the senate while the Jedi were waiting in the wings - and Mace's "I think the time has come to inform the Senate that our ability to use the force has been diminished."

Pretty Lame - Oh honourable members of the Senate and for some reason the Viceroy of the Trade Federation... We, the epic defenders of the galaxy, are impotent. Not in that sense... though our extraordinary monkishness, yes well in that sense too... but what I mean is that we are useless... incapable of helping ourselves so much as you guys - so continue to fund our luxurious Temple on Coruscant and send more cushions for us to sit on, as we are wearing down the last batch.

Ya know, from what I've seen it looked like their ability to use the force started to diminish after ep3, after all the bullshit rubber saber duels. Let's take a look, shall we?

Ep1: Jedi hop about and leap over eachother during a saber duel.

Ep2: Jedi hold off fairly large droid army for protracted time. Bouncing and leaping reaches new heights of idiocy and Yoda and Dooku play a force version of Pong for approximately half an hour.

Ep3 projected: Yoda goes into orbit to perform a devastating "slam dunk" lightsaber attack upon Palpatine. Mace shows off unheard of levels of funk during a duel. Obi Wan and Anakin make lava islands move with the power of love the force.

Ep4: Luke can hit a training droid, sometimes, and Obi Wan shuffles around slowly in response to Vader's slow shuffling.

So you see, the only prophecy worth mentioning in the PT is that the Jedi are going to lose most of their more annoying powers in time for the OT. However, that's a prophecy I can live with.

Agreed Veer, Yoda has a lot to answer for in the PT. In effect, he is the one who decides that Obi-Wan can train Anakin (when he thinks for a few seconds and says: "agree the counsil does" or something like that) and he's the one who doesn't go with this new information that Doku gives them.

In Ep3 the counsil will put Anakin and Palpatine together, I'm sure it will be Yoda's wise decision as well... (we know Mace doesn't like it..)

Yeah, but Mace doesn't like anyone, cause he has to sit on a cushion surrounded by computer generated images...
can you blame him.

The Jedi in PT come off as ineffectual and impotent fools.

And I'm still bothered by the whole:

Jango = assassin, assassinated another assassin who assassinated her robot who tried to assassinate the queen with worms, and then attacked Obi-Wan. In co-hoots with TF. In co-hoots with Count Dooku/Darth Tyrannus. In co-hoots with evil Geonosians.

Jango = template for clones

Clones = ordered by dead Jedi who got money from god-only-knows where. Not senate knew about it, and not even Jedi knew about.

Jedi = implicitly trust using the clones WITHOUT QUESTION to aid them in battle.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny Part #2:

Obi-Wan sees the droid who deposited the worms take off---he FLIES OUT THE WINDOW RISKING LIFE AND LIMB to catch it with DEEP DESPERATION TO DISCOVER WHO IS BEHIND THE ATTACKS ON THE QUEEN!!! The droid is shot, Obi-Wan plummets to his almost-certain death, while Anakin desperately and quickly garners a speeder to RESCUE HIS MASTER IN A DEATH-DEFYING NOSE DIVE!!! Anakin himself plummets from the very vehicle, which they had just lost moments earlier only to amazingly land on the vessel with deftness and lack of injury! Then they CRASH and Anakin who gained minor injures, along with Obi-Wan run into the club, tussle with the would-be assassin and drag him/her out the SAME ENTRANCE (the only way in/out).

My point? All of this action... this desperation! This risk-of-life-and-limb to catch the one responsible, and yet, as soon Zam is killed, they SEE Jango---they SEE him flying off with a jetpack that can't be any faster than a speeder, and yet what do they do---they just sit there! Just sit there! The speeder is right there! Yes, it is, because there was only one way in or out ("he went in there to hide, not to escape")... so that means, the speeder isn't that far away---right where Obi-Wan parked it!!! (What? did "Deathstick Boy" steal it to go home?) Why didn't the pursuit continue? Why?

I guess Anakin only wanted a really good aerobic workout and really didn't want to find out who was behind it all.

The business with the clone army is the most illogical, inexplicable aspect of the prequels. Obi-Wan gets sent to investigate an attempted assassination and finds out about this clone army being formed. Everything points to concealment and deceit. And then suddenly this mysterious army arrives and everyone's cool with it? Say what?

What the hell was Lucas smoking?

The scene was actually quite enjoyable if one ignores the bad dialog between Anakin and Obi-wan. I never did understand though why Zam choose to shoot the robot instead of shooting Obi-wan, who was a much bigger and better target. In fact when i first saw Zam taking aim, I thought she was aiming for Obi-wan, it certainly makes more sense that away.

I can only imagine that this was all part of palpatines enormously complicated plan. Palpatine planned to have Obi-wan assigned to protect Amidala, so he would discover (but not catch) Jango Fett, and follow him to Kamino, first discovering it's whereabouts by asking a dinner chef, whereupon he would find the clone army, but still not catch Jango, who would then (unwittingly) lead him to Geonosis, where obi-wan would uncover the separatist plot, causing the senate to give Palpatine emergency powers to use the said clone army. During this time Obi-wan must survive 3 assassination attempts - Zam on Coursant, Jango Fett on Kamino and enroute to Genosis, and Dooku on Genosis. And everything went according to plan! Remarkable!

The only thing I can conclude is that Palpatine enjoys dreaming up insanely complicated plans just for the sake of it. He could have just taken his vast clone army and walked all over the practically defenceless Republic, but oh, no...

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Exactly! He could've joined up with the TF and used all of their robots and such instead of concocting a mock war. What was he so afraid of? The robots faired pretty darn well against the Jedi in AOTC, and coupled with the clones, he would've been unstoppable. After all, Coruscant apparently doesn't have any defenses. Apparently, the senate wouldn't have mattered as they would've "endlessly debated" while they were being attacked. So, yes, all of Palpatine's machinations were completely useless and he lost a couple of his apprentices, really for nothing.

no that wouldn't work, he needs to get public opinion against the jedi other otherwise they'd stop him. but no wait, he doesn't have to fear the jedi because jedi lose to battle droids en masse.
