DES MOINES, Iowa Jan. 11  Under fire in a campaign debate, Howard Dean conceded grudgingly Sunday night that he never named a black or Latino to his cabinet during nearly 12 years as governor of Vermont.

Later in the debate, Lord Saruman blasted Dean for not naming an Orc or Uruk-Hai to his cabinet during his same term as governor.

I'm not an American (and I'm not White either), but I don't get why so many people are screaming for divershitty every where from labour positions to the White House. If there is anyone who can do the job right, s/he should be allowed to have a shot for the position, no matter what skin colour or physical features they have. Dividing people by race is racist.

I know you're just being rhetorical, but I'll pretend you weren't. The answer is that all politics is corrupt. Secret deals, illegal campaign funding, ballot-box stuffing and money laundering aren't even scandals anymore. There is no such thing as a clean campaign, and no politician rides to the top by sticking to the issues.

So one asshole wants to hurt the career of another asshole, he looks for a weakness, at least in public percetion, and he exposes it. That's politics. Rather than make a better product and offer it to the market at a better price, why not just do your best to hurt the reputation or profitabiltiy of the other guy? Negative campaigns are easier, safer and cheaper.

Been there, done that. I've been following the political scene for more than four years now and I've come to know quite a bit about the corruption of politicians.

And to think that four years ago, I wondered why so many politicians supported gun control while the facts were against it. Then I realised that the issue had nothing to do with public safety.
