Nicholas, please keep it civil. We like to avoid racism in the SW forum. Go to Debate Club if you want to pick a fight. smile.gif

The death of the Ewok was in many people's minds a CAUSE for celebration.

laugh.gif other good points too, Helena.

Yah, Love the oral tradition argument- Less Was more.

and please don't impugn Coca-cola. The all powerful Pepsi-empire was behind the soda can assault. Along with 72 taco bell toys, pizza hut tie-ins and KFC crap. Plus, Doritos, cheez-its and anything else that lends itself to SW whistling.gif

You two!  Ernesttomlinson just wrote a very good relevant post and you just derailed it!

Thanks. smile.gif I think I have my moments...

Like you, I didn't know that Bail Organa was in Episode II until literally years later. All I had was the vague though, "What is Jimmy Smits doing in this movie?" I didn't clue in until much later. And that reminds me of another thing. Others have commented about how ham-handed Lucas was in introducing Owen and Beru. "Hi, I'm Owen. This is my girlfriend, Beru." Or whatever the line was. Totally unnecessary. Yet a character who will become the adoptive father of Luke and Leia - and that's serious business - gets no introduction? WTF?

Oops, sorry for mixing up Coke and Pepsi there blushing.gif Now I remember better. There was a guy at the firm where I was working at the time - and not too young a guy either - who was trying to collect all those pop cans. I wonder if he kept them. Maybe a Nute Gunray Pepsi can is worth a s**tload of money now. There's something almost touching about that Pepsi promotion now. Yeah, it was crass and mercenary marketing but also pathetic (in the old sense of the word); I get the idea that Lucas really believed that some day we'd be talking about Mace Windu or Chancellor Velorum just like we talk today about Lando or even poor Greedo - in other words that Lucas really believed his own bulls**t that he was a modern mythographer and not just a hack sci-fi movie maker.

No it wouldn't; it would have made it a happy ending with a slightly bittersweet edge to it. Luke's friend Biggs died in ANH, so why not Lando in RotJ? This isn't a Disney movie; let's have some acknowledgement that people die in war, please.

with all the shit lucas got in for Jar Jar... it's probably best that he didn't kill off the black guy.

yeah, but the emotional reaction of han and leia to lando's death would make up for it. It would show just how significant Lando was. Definately not a token black.

I'd say its more racist that the only black characters in the PT are tokens.

Btw everyone that thinks lucas is a racist because of chracters like jar jar and watto... Well let me tell you something. Your a racist yourself! you imediantly think because a chracter is stupid that his supposed to represent a black..... well it really does say something about the way you think, obviously in your mind all balcks are stupid and talk funny. And watto being a "jew" again that is racist thinking that it shows how your brain works it shows that YOU think jews or blacks are like these fictional chracters. Thats directed at everyone that thinks lucas is a racist.

people didn't think jar jar was Carribean because he was stupid

people thought he was Caribbean (sp) because he uses a ridiculous parody of a Carribean accent. Your average native english speaker hears him and says "hm....sounds Caribbean." It is extremely rational for a normal human being to see the character and say..."hmm...sounds Caribbean...and he acts stupid....why is the stupid guy Caribbean? Ha ha Jar Jar Binks is a stupid Caribbean" and guess what...real Caribbeans don't like that.

Repeat the same train of thought for squinty eyed aliens with japanese accents. People don't think the trade federation people were japanese becacuse they were greedy corporate types, people thought they were japanese because THEY HAD SQUINTY EYES AND HAD JAPANESE ACCENTS. When aliens with squinty eyes and japanese accents happen to be in a villainous role and be GREEDY CORPORATE TYPES, people put two and two together and say HEY WHAT THE FUCK.

how much more obvious could it be?

Random thought: Are we going to see some force clouding "kryptonite" ring on Papal tine?

(And that's right: I'm also hinting Lazy Lucas swiped the pope's name on his anagram-name-developer. "Tine" can mean "to lose," incidentally.)

Maybe Lucas picked up a copy of Hellblazer, and thought to himself:

Constantine... name of a pope... take out the constant, and add... need a 'p'... paltine. No, that sounds stupid. Palp. Palpatine. Great. Really stupid. I'll use it.

(just joking. I'll be using Palpatine in my FF, so no use in dissing myself)

I don't see Lucas reading Hellblazer.

Funny - ten, twelve years ago when I was a college freshman I thought Hellblazer was the coolest stuff ever. Now I look back and think, "How could I have enjoyed that stuff?" "Horror porn" as a friend of mine put it and, when Ennis came in, hopelessly adolescent horror porn at that. (And who was that artist that illustrated most of the Ennis issues? The one who couldn't draw faces that looked different even if you'd held a gun on him?)

Did Lucas coin the name "Palpatine" anyway? I thought that came from some other writer, from a novel or something.

Not much a fan of Hellblazer myself. Crazy stuff.

I'll go see if I can find anything on the name Palpatine. Possibly, dunno. I have a lot of time to myself this evening, so no big deal.

Yes he is a hero, he brought balance to the force he killed EVIL.

How exactly did he bring balance to the force? He killed the emperor and then died himself. This leaves us with no Sith and one Jedi. Can someone please explain to me how this represents balance in any way, shape, or form?

No, no one can.

Not even Nicholas Skywalker - maybe we should set Hannibal on him or him on Hannibal...

Nicky boy - I'm Australian, and the comparison between Vader and Ned Kelly is lame. Helena wasn't being racist - and she certainly wasn't being racist to you - online you look like the Master Chief.
Quite frankly - you sound like Anakin out of Episode II.
Petulant, Moody, Young and Unconvincing.
I hope no one bans me for saying that.
