Click on the above link to see what is supposed to be the first official picture of Brandon Routh as Superman from Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, due out next year (around the same time as POTC 2 I hear).

I also hear that Hugh Jackman will appear in this film in a series of flashbacks as Superman's adoptive father. Small world, eh?

Wow. That looks really shitty.

I don't know, I know you're kind of limited by the blue/red classic Superman uniform but that looks way crappier and lower budget than I would have imagined.

For lazies:

Pic is dead, Chefelf.

Personally, I think he looks rather out of proportion. Legs are too large, chest is too small.

I'm just glad they didn't put him in a black S&M leather jumpsuit (there was a rumor going around that they would). The suit reminds me of Superman III when they put Superman through an evil phase and his suit got darker and dirtier to reflect his new surly attitude.

I think I'm bothered less by the actual suit (though the red/maroon/purple is very off and the "S" looks weird) and more by how young he looks. It's supposed to be SuperMAN, not SuperBOY (sorry for not spacing between the Super and the Man/Boy).

LA, now that you have put "Man/Boy" into a post, we are going to start turning up in some pretty funky search results. devil.gif

You have my deepest apologies. Or are you happy that I've opened a doorway to some "pretty funky search results"?

Dunno, I just thought the man of steel would at least have a six-pack.

And a barrel chest. But all he seems to have is fat thighs.

Funny thing though - Christopher Reeve himself wasn't all that muscular when he played Superman (1978-1987). He may have gained 30 some pounds for it, but he still looked pretty lean compared to the Superman of the comic books (granted, pretty much all superheroes are drawn to look like steroid eating body builder types, and honestly, how many of the actors who take part in these comic book adaptations have lived up to that?).

The more and more I look at this suit with its maroon cape and boots and its revisionist "S", the more and more I feel like I'm looking at a car accident - I know I shouldn't look at it because of its hideous nature, but at the same time I can't look away.

But hey, maybe this suit is a guarantee that the new movie will flop horribly (and humorously) next year and turn director Bryan "X-Men" Singer into a laughing stock.

It's probably because I grew up with Christopher Reeve's Superman in the early 80's but that's what I think of whenever I think of Superman. Probably the same way my dad thinks of George Reeves. To me Superman will always be the lean Christopher Reeve.

If that pic isn't big enough for you check this shit out!

Holy crap.

And to many others (except my idiot film teacher Miss Jen Lackey)

Personally I think they should have picked Jim Caviezel to be the next Superman, but that's just me.
