La-Mulana. New-school old-school, challenging, free-exploring. Think about what would happen if someone combined the platforming/exploring elements of the original Metroid with a Japanese counterpart to Indiana Jones who is decidedly Simon Belmontish, wrote it for a computer, gave it a map, and didn't have the size limitations of an NES cartridge.
I'm actually in the middle of that right now. Plyaing it feels like my sanity's slowly being chopped into little pieces, but it's so worth it.
After I'm finished with La-Mulana (if I'll ever make it to the end), I'll have to check out that new
Penumbra demo. And
Other Worlds, which I've successfully managed to avoid this far, despite all the recommendations I've heard. And I'll have to replay
the White Chamber, as they seem to have released a new version with voice actors and more endings since I played it for the first time. And maybe then I'll replay
Cave Story, just because it's so awesome.
Yes, lots of freeware games here. That's partly because I'm a cheap bum, partly because my computer hates me and partly because there aren't any great new games for any consoles I own. In other words, Gamecube. Should've bought a PS2 instead...
