QUOTE (Mnesymone @ Aug 15 2005, 08:46 PM)
Does Doom III have the classic units and weapons - super shotguns, plasma cannons, chainsaw and enemies like zombies, imps, Hell Knights and those bloody bosses like Spider Mastermind and the Cyberdemon Baphomet.

No super-shotgun, that's in the exp pack. It has everything else though, plus grenades and an assualt rifle, and the soulcube. All the enemies are there plus a few new ones, and all of them have been re-designed.

If you want a fuller report, check my blog for an extensive review. Link's in my sig.

Though I did have that old Doom Trilogy, I don't think I'll get Doom III - largely because it would eat my computer - which is blunt-edge technology. Also, if as you say, the zombies don't do what they are supposed to, I'll stick to fighting the Flood for all my zombie-busting needs. And if it has a weak multiplayer, I don't think it'll have a great deal of longevity. You really need a random element to keep a game living long, and randomness comes from: a level/campaign randomiser a la Diablo, kickass AI or well set up multiplayer.

Actually, I get the most replay value from Balders Gate 2 and Morrowind, which have no random elements or multiplayer.

You don't necessarily need randomization to keep a game fun as long as you like the game. I'm on my second fun-through with no sign of slowing down in the future. Plus, since it's such a huge game, there's tons of mods and player-created levels. I have 2 mods lined up to play around with. Weapon changes and having less ammo.

I cleaned my room yesterday and discovered my copy of SimAnt. It's so old it's Win 3.1 compatable and was on a floppy, but it still worked. I played that all day today. I also backed up the game onto my hard drive because floppy disks are so unreliable.

Well, they have books. And games. And movies. And a bunch of barbie dolls, but it's mostly books.

Arr, there is simply no excuse for this to be dead...

Currently playing lots of SSBM and re-playing Far Cry (a lot better now than the first time around...) and HL2 (again, a lot better the second[actually third] time around)
