I just had the random idea that the PT is friggin stupid enough that it could become a cult classic in disappointing Science Fiction just like RHPS.

Just like a live reenactment of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, (if you're completely clueless about what i'm talking about i'll leave the explaining to someone else) things could happen like.

Can you imagine people going to theaters shouting stuff at the screen like "SLUT!" when Padme talks abou her first time

shooting waterguns in the air when obi-wan is on kamino.

or "DUMBASS!" when a jedi says something really lame.

scream "SHOOT HIM IN THE FACE! THE FACE! THE FACE!" in the respective ep2 scene.

the whole audience can cry in unison when jar jar first appears.

i'm sure we could find an occasion to throw buttered toast around if we think hard enough.

this may be the only way to save the PT.

trust me guys

I don't know if you really want us to add to this, but... as a musical theatre performer (as well as SW fanatic), here are some things that could happen at a midnight showing of AOTC:

- everytime we see Anakin pout and glare at the camera, everyone could begin leaning forward in their seats, then at the last minute yell, "Blink, Ani, Blink!"

- each time that Jango Fett fires that "sonic cannon", some folks down front could do an "air guitar" strike a mean chord at the same time

- and finally, when Padme "comes to" after being thrown from the clone ship, and she says, "we've got to get to that hangar", the audience can all shout at the screen, "how do you know where they went, Padme? You were unconscious!"

That's all I have. Who knows, it could actually be fun!

That sounds fun actually. I also think that if it ever becomes legally possible, these films would lend themselves very well to Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

Although, as far as I know, shouting things at the screen is the only way a sane person can sit through any of these things anyway.

JYAMG - I would LOVE to see TPM and AOTC as Mystery Science Theatre 3000. I KNOW this is the only way I could ever sit through TPM again. I think I can admit this without repercussion: "my version" of the Saga does NOT include TPM. I've decided that this saga is only 5 parts. That's my stance and I'm stickin' to it! innocent.gif

And as they say on the TWoP board: Word McWord to the Word on shouting at the screen.

Sounds good, giving the PT the MST3K treatment.

[Anakin staring at Padme in his creepy way]
TOM SERVO: "Does this bug you, Paddy? Does this bug you? I'm not touching you, but does it bug you?"

Whenever Anakin conducts a pratfall or gets his arm cut off, they all shout "YAY!"

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Doubt THAT will ever happen. I mean come on, yeah it sucks, but it is also Star Wars, loved by WAY to many youngsters. Those youngsters are going to grow up and become SW's prequal activists... more or less. Probably .Maybe. That's just me talking.

Well... okay, maybe.

But that doesn't mean we OT Activists can't have our own midnight shows to mock the PT devil.gif (also insert Fiendish laugh)

Meh, I dunno about today's youngsters growing up to be PT activists, etc.

Seems unlikely.

The PT just didn't have the same effect on the kids of today as the OT has on the kids of yesterday (a.k.a. us).

It's big now because the movies are still out, but once they're gone- that's it.

You think people are going to grow up quoting the PT like we did the OT?

You think it'll be parodied and paid homage to for the next 20 years?

You think people will be lining up for the rerelease of Phantom Menace in 2019?

I highly doubt it.

The movies of the PT are just movies. Big moneymakers, but quickly forgotten when the next thing comes along.

The movies of the OT were nothing short of events. They were never forgotten and I tend think they never will be. They were special and their longevity proves that.

There's nothing special at all about the PT and for that reason- I think today's kids won't think about them too often when they're our age.

If anything- they'll be thinking about the OT, as we still are.

snaithbert,

I just left my parents' house and we had a rather enjoyable conversation saying everything you have said above!

We, the "BinarySunset Family" wholeheartedly agree!

During the Yoda fight scene we could either:

1) Yell "Sonic! Sonic! Sonic!"

2) (While Yoda is grunting) "Make it hurt, big fella!"
