Probably depends on your nationality. Americans have a habbit of putting z's where they don't belong(and it's pronounced 'zeds', not 'zees'!)

Ok...the "U"s I can understand, but "zed"?! I can't remember ever hearing that anywhere.

Remember that there's probably a good chance that the 'ABC' song was conceived by Americans, so that explains the insistence on rhyming. The Brits were never one for that sort of stuff.
