It is stupid to put out a book before the movie in this case...

It would be interesting if the book and the movie contradict each other...

Well I would point out that the Star Wars novelization ("Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" notice no "A New Hope" in the title, though it was re-released with that cover many years later) came out a whole YEAR before the movie. But then again there wasn't a huge spoiler in there.. (except "Ben gets killed, but comes back through the Force to help Luke" and "Han comes back to help Luke win the day" oh and Darth Vader escapes).

It's funny how things change. I seem to remember reading back in 1980 that GL was FURIOUS over the premature release of the novelization for ESB, because he wanted it to be a surprise.

Further, the novelization for RotJ did not come out until a day or two before the release of the movie. I was standing in line with some friends on opening day, reading the novelization. I was chosen because I could read the fastest (yes, we had cut class that day! I'm glad my father never found out!!) and every other sentence, I was telling them to shut the fuck up, because the novelization was pretty bad, and trying to actually get any real details out was difficult.

I saw TPM, then read the novelization. It did not get any better. I skipped reading AotC and RotS entirely. Then again, I had seen the movies, and nothing could possibly have saved them. The late, great Isaac Asimov could not have saved these stories. William Shakespeare would likely have laughed himself BACK into his grave.

Yeah, the market for spoilers for the Star Wars relig-- I mean franchise really reversed itself. You had all this marketing right before the movie to capitalize on curiosity. It's funny when TIME and Newsweek devote an issue just to talking up a new movie. Isn't that what entertainment magazines are for, not news magazine? But then I guess entertainment IS news. Jump on the bandwagon...
