They were trying to do something worse than the holiday special.

Dear George Lucas
The reasons as to why I will never attend another of your lousy prequels ever again are many and varied.
I could of course describe in vast detail the conglomeration of reasons as to why your prequelss are so appallingly dull. However, I certainly do not want to be seen as rubbing salt into the open wound of your colourless social life.
Suffice to say, the circumstances surrounding my decision to place an embargo upon your future moviess proves this course of action to be entirely justifiable.
Anyway, to keep things short and sweet, the main reasons are as follows:
There are much better things to occupy oneself with during an evening than to stand around listening to excruciatingly bad music, sipping tepid non-alcoholic fruit punch.
Then there's that weirdo guy. What's his name again? You know, the guy who looks about 35 but still has incredibly bad acne. I mean, what is that all about? I certainly don't enjoy standing around listening to him rabbit on and on and on about seagulls going to Moscow or some such mindless drivel. Who is that guy anyway and why is he always at your parties?
The punch. I've got to mention the punch again. That god awful insipid concoction that could double up as furniture polish.... or fly spray. That's enough to put off even the most adamant of party goers. It's enough to make a person weep with regret.
And why is it that there is never any more than exactly 1 CD playing at your parties? Over and over and over again. I mean I love 20 Great Polka Hits along with the best of them, but a little variety would not go astray.
Raffle tickets. What's with the books and books of raffle tickets? Every time I go to one of your parties I end up coming away with a book of fifty raffle tickets in each pocket. I mean, I'd love a to win a Grill Meister BBQ set, but I never do. Twelve hundred books of tickets later and not a thing. Zip. Enough with the raffle tickets already.
No doubt you can appreciate my situation and will not take these comments to heart. I trust that I will not be receiving future invitations to any of your deplorable films.
Yours sincerely,
Lumpy Sleezebaggano

The problem isn't the film, it's the audience. We're using an aesthetic that belongs to a different era in filmmaking.
I seem to remember George Lucas said something like that about the prequels, that he wanted to use a different filmmaking aesthetic (the crappy kind) and that WE the audience are the problem, not his craptacular storyline and poor directing.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

I have no doubt that the PT's will get the comeuppance they deserve. In time, people will say, "did you see the prequels?", and they'll reply, "The what?"
It's just a shame the OOT will be brought down with it.
Battle for the Galaxy--read the "other Star Wars"
All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

"The prequels have kick-ass fight scenes! Seeing Yoda with a lightsabre and bouncing and spinning around like an overinflated basketball on coke - and then letting Dooku get away anyway - that just made my day, my week, my year!"
"At least they were better than MATRIX REVOLUTIONS."
"Lucas is an artiste! He doesn't care about critics and whether a bunch of fanboys hate him. He makes his movies for himself. Admire his artistic integrity! And buy the action figures and LEGO sets while you're at it!"

I would honestly respect him so much more if he just would admit that the PT is disappointing, to say the least. But no, the fault obviously lies with us...
It is times like this I vividly remember how I felt when I first saw Jar Jars dive and the R2-D2 award ceremony in TPM and I understand that I am not mistaken in my convictions.

Yeah, well you're just jealous because Lucas did it and not YOU.
In the spirit of the thread.
