Project Gotham Racing 2

Game Info
Platform(s): Xbox
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
Developer: Bizarre Creations
Release Date: November 18, 2003
Rating: Everyone
Genre: Racing (Simulation)

Basic Overview
Pros: PGR2 is an addictive, realistic simulation that offers hours and hours of gameplay in the single player mode alone. Additionally the system link and splitscreen modes offer even more depth to this title.
Cons: The AI will drive you batty as they stick to their driving path like glue and destroy your precious "kudo points". Also there is no way to modify your cars by buying new parts.

Ratings
Story: NA (if applicable)
No story to speak of. That is refreshing as a lot of racing games try to be something they're not and offer a story mode which is usually an ultra lame drama that tries to explain why these races are taking place. These stories are generally delivered with all the flare of the jokes you find on the back of a cereal box.
Game Objectives: 7/10
That being said, the game is pretty simple. You race your way through each circuit, earning kudo points for stylish driving and unlocking new cars, circuits and races along the way. There are 14 different circuits and each circuit has a variety of different levels including: Street Race, Speed Camera, Hot Lap, Overtake and Cone Challenge.
Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay for this game is very realistic and often times frustrating. People used to arcade style racing games will be annoyed with the realistic stopping distances and slow cornering. However, its realism may take some getting used to but it is well worth it once you master it.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are very realistic as well. A little too realistic. It's almost easy to forget you're playing a game at all and just think you're driving to work at a very fast pace. If you've visited any of the cities in the game you'll see that they're great representations of the cities themselves. The realism can tend to be on the boring side for me but games that take place on present day Earth have never quite been the most exciting to me.
Stability: 10/10
The game is extremely stable. I haven't had any game save issues or glitches as of yet.
Sound: 7/10
The sounds are fairly realistic. The sounds of the car engines, squealing tires and crashes seem to be pretty well rendered. I think my only problem with it is, again, my lack bias towards unrealistic gaming.
Music: 6/10
The music is your standard pop music crap. It's all very generic but tends to fit in with this type of game pretty well.

Bottom Line
Genre Factor: 8/10
This is easily one of the better racing games to come out this year. It has enough originality and realism to be at the head of the pack.
Replayability Factor: 9/10
This game has near infinite replayability. Even without being on Xbox Live you could easily play this game for months and months with friends trying to outdo each others times and kudo rankings. The vast amount of user records make it a very competitive and fun game for many to play with. On Xbox Live the playability will be even more intense.
Fun Factor: 7/10
This game is quite fun. Racing games are not my favorite genre but I am a fan of any game that allows you to constantly play towards beating old scores and unlocking new modes. The only thing that could make it more fun in that respect would be the ability to modify cars.
Recommendation: Buy it
This is one game that is worth a purchase. If you like racing games then it will be money well spent. This will provide many, many hours of gameplay as you play through the games nearly endless circuits and try to best your own scores.

"ha ha" indeed. You wouldn't be laughing if you'd played "Knights of the Old Republic".

I have not had a game crash on me since Nintendo's 8 bit wonder. Unless you count all the times my cpu has crashed in the middle of warcraft 3.....

I can't believe they did not add the ability to modify cars. I thought that was a standard, something you could not remove.

What was that game on Nintendo called? You could buy turbo boosters, super tread tires and stronger car body.

Customization is such a great feature, it makes you feel more accomplished and creative. It's a good long term addiction factor. For instance: Diablo 2. This game is just click click click kill, open door, open chest. The only reason people play it is for the customization of the characters. Beating the game is short term thrills, what keeps you coming back for more is the strive for character perfection.

Exactly. PGR2, has plenty of playability outside of the customization thing. If they put in customization it could be a truly great game all around. It's still quite fun but I am not playing it as much as I would be if I could soupe up my car.
