I've got a friend who has been dumped twice by chinesse girls because their families openly didn't want her with a white guy...

but back to the point.

the whole thing about regognisable accents and racial stereo types isn't racist. it's unimaginative!!! he couldn't think of anything new...

it's not a fucking platform for GL to show the world the contempt he has for specific races but his lack of imagination in that department.

people can push this theory all they want, but the problem is simpler than they think. Alot of people want to see hate... but it's apathy, that is the problem here.

Do you get it yet?

I get what you're saying. I don't agree with it. Your MacBeth analogy is empty, since there's nothing Scottish in that whole play, apart from some names. STAR WARS on the other hand is supposed to take place is some faraway realm, and Watto talks like a New York Jew. He is also a greedy moneylender. Before these prequels, these transparent stereotypes didn't exist, unless you count Lando's smooth-talking pick-up artist (I don't). I guess as far as you can tell, it's just lazy writing; Lucas could have made Watto a greedy moneylender who spoke with an English accent, and it would have been just the same. I don't agree. I think the portrayal of Watto is as ridiculous as if Lucas had made an Irish guy wearing a rugby shirt who went around drinking and getting into fights. Lucas isn't Jewish, so such an association of "greed" with Jewishness is going to raise an eyebrow.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

I don't get the whole Jewish analogy with Watto anyway. I thought it was the Italians who should get offended by Watto.

yeah he had an itallian accent from memory...

it's just that all the PC thugs out there said: "Hey!!! that guy's greedy and he has a long nose... HE MUST BE A JEW!!!"

you see, JYMG... that's what it is to be PC. and that's what i've been saying all along, and so few people understand or see it. but political correctness is the biggest excuse to make racial/blanket/genralized statements since religion!!!

Stamp out PC thuggery in your town. they're the biggest biggots out there!!!

lol, crap, my last comment was at the end of page 3, I guess nobody read it. Damn the page movement!!!

I think it's 'here here' not 'hear hear'. I could be wrong, but I'm sure I'm right.

You're wrong smile.gif It's hear hear! Derived from:

"Hear, all ye good people, hear what this brilliant and eloquent speaker has to say!"

That's not the first time I've been wrong. It's a rare occasion though.
