So there are a lot of famous people in this town. It's just like on TV! So far I have seen the following celebrities!

P. Diddy - (Sorta) He was just in a store that I was outside of. It was his own clothing store because, apparently, you are no one if you don't have your own clothing line these days.

Bill Walton - Basketball player guy.

Richard Thomas - "John Boy" from The Waltons. Yeah, I never saw that show either. One of the nicest people I've ever met. I talked with him for about five minutes.

Jeremy Piven - Everyone's favorite bad guy / good guy from various college-themed movies.

Jon Stewart - One of my comedic heroes. I was so close to him I could have reached out and touched him... if I had ten foot arms.

There was a game we once played during a church service. I forget what the name of the game was, but it basically boiled down to members of the congregation telling everyone else what famous people they may have met in their life. Even if it was just to say hello. It was very suprising how many folks in a small church, in a small city, have met famous people. For myself, I once met Tony Randall walking on a street in NYC and had said hi to him. He stopped and very graciously said hi back. We talked for maybe 1 whole minute. As a young Boy Scout, Ted Williams visited our campsite, a real big deal back then. Whenever a Bette Davis movie was on television, my dad would always mention the fact that he had shook her hand during a WWII Bond Drive.

You are following a proud tradition of meeting famous people, who unfortunately will not remember who you are 5 minutes after they leave you.

Yeah, that's the sad part. However, I'm fine with P. Diddy not remembering me. I didn't even really see him. The Waltons guy may remember me... he's not doing much these days. wink.gif

I apparantly met the President of Georgia last year. I was working at the gate at the Rugby World Cup that went to the media offices. He came through, and I said hello, and he ignored me. The bastard. I decided to barrack for whoever the other team was after that.

What weird terms you canadeuropeans* (?) use! "Barrack", "rugby", "Georgia", "team"! It's like a wonderful, wonderful fantasy-land.

With its own line of clothing.

Where/how did you meet him? Did you just go to a taping of The Daily Show or what?

Chef, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the "Cajun Cooking Man" Justin Wilson, but I met him in New Orleans when I was about thirteen. He was helping cook for some fancy dinner my mom, stepdad, and I went to.

Other famous folks I've met or seen:

Crispen Glover when he was in town promoting an indie film he directed--I got kind of stuttery and just said that I really liked his movies. What a dummy.

I once saw Ollie North (lol!) right before Christmas at one of the local malls. Suppose he was doing some shopping. Didn't approach him though.

That would be awesome. I'd only want to talk about Back to the Future though. He's probably hate that.

Two degrees of separation: I too have met Richard Thomas, when he was in town filming IT. I have to admit I was in a store called THE GAMES WORKSHOP, and he came in looking for something to buy for his very sweet triplets, all of whom he had with him. The guy running the store wasn't very helpful, because that's a strange company in that it denies the existence of all other game companies, and its games aren't really suitable for nine-year-old girls.

Unlike a lot of celebrities, RT seemed to want to spend money no matter what, so he ended up chatting with me about what I liked, and we got to talking about the sorts of games they sell there. I ended up explaining roleplaying games to him and convinced him to buy some tasteful miniatures and some paint. The store manager clumsily asked him to sign a copy of White Dwarf magazine, which I thought was hilarious, and I told him (RT) that "I thought the remake of ALL'S QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT was quite good, despite what a lot of people had to say about it." I thought that was a damn clever thing to say at the time, and naturally it's one of those things I wish I could take back.

I've met some other famous people, and seen a few others, but Vancouver will in no way compete with New York City.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

I find it odd that ditzy fifteen year old girls would have a crush on a forty year old guy who talks about politics.
