Yeah, that's what I meant. They compensate from audio to visual by using the expressions as the inflection.
The only ASL sign I know is platypus.

But I think what Jen's saying is that it doesn't have to do with the audio to visual shift, it just has to do with the nature of ASL. It's not just translaters that use facial expressions-- it's ANYONE who signs-- because facial expressions are necessary to convey information in ASL. It's not just about tone and nuance, it's actually part of the sign. Different facial expressions = different meaning.
