I've been learning HTML and all I can say is: Its made me no longer feel British. Yes thats right. I don't write in the u when I write color anymore since html code likes it that way.

HTML is tricky like that. I have to stop myself from putting in the "u" all the time.

I'm quite capable of keeping my HTML and my life apart, but what bugs me is frames. Seriously, they're mad complicated, and they're ugly as a bulldog/baby crossbreed. I've never gotten one to work in my life, even if I copy the code out of a book to the very letter. Its a good thing I don't need them...

HTML has changed my life, I feel like that I finally "belong" on the internet.

But it may be the fact that I don't have to worry about the "u" in color, or "colour".

I more or less forced myself to learn html when I realized how HORRIBLE my site looked at the time.

I mean...LOOK AT IT! Granted, that's just the old Heccubus And Fiends site, but it's pretty much the same design.

Think of how Germans feel. It's gotta be tough for them to learn all those tags and not be able to associate them with meaningful words.

I gotta admit, I don't hand-code pages anymore. Dreamweaver and Fireworks does everything for me... hehehe...

I used to hate HTML IDEs and would religiously hand-code everything. Dreamweaver was the first WYSIWYG that I actually liked and opened me up to a whole other world. Now I mainly use Stylus Studio which is a happy medium (a non-WYSIWTG IDE), so I'm still keepin' it real, but I don't have to type-in or close all of my tags manually.

What's Stylus Studio like? I don't think I've ever heard of that... huh.gif

It's actually an XML editor, but it comes with XHTML intellisense. In terms of coding XHTML, it's basically a text editor that autocompletes and closes tags for you; essentially a step up from a plain old text editor. You can import other XML DTDs, and it will provide intellisense for those languages also.

Right, thought it'd be better to use this thread than create a new one.

I'm currently working on a website for my aunts new picture company, and I want to stick in some way to search the picture gallery. Can anyone give me any pointers on how to set a simple one up? I've got PHP, CGI, ASP (whatever that is) and two MySQL databases to mess around with, if that helps.

You can always take the easy, half-assed route and put a Google search box in. They have the option of just searching the site.

Hmm, to be blastedly picky about it, the Google option either completly clashes with/distorts the layout/colour scheme, or costs £2000 to implement. Not really an option either way, although the Free Search is now my backup plan.

Looks like I'm going to have to do some research then...
