just finished In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. a bit slow at parts, but an engaging story that becomes doubly creepy when you realize that it all actually happened.
Head Gunner for the Royal Sloop Crimson Steel, Queen of the Dead, Instigator of Chaos and Confusion, Knight of the Grand Recursive Order of the Lambda Calculus, and also The Non.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....
....We'd be lying though.

did you make it through The Castle? I started to read it in January, but then just completely lost interest.

No; these are all of Kafka's literary works excepting The Trial, The Castle, and Amerika. I must say, however, that all of them are deeply confusing; The Judgment, especially, made me want to throw my book across the room. I've never been so angry at an author before, but Kafka -- even though he's been dead for 80 years -- made me want to strangle him. In essence, he's the proto-emo. angry.gif

Recently finished Terry Brooks' "The Elves of Cintra". Very good book! I am starting "The Princess Bride" next.
"And shepherds we shall be for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti!!!"

You'll love it! The Princess Bride is one of my very favourites.

I just finished a Michael Crichton book, State of Fear. It was pretty eye-opening, as far as the whole environmental business goes. And I'm about to make my fourth attempt on Catch-22. The beginning just totally puts me to sleep, so I've never managed to get past the first chapter or two. But I keep hearing it's so great, so I'm going to try yet again, especially since I own it and all.
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

I hope you can. It truly is such a delightfully darkly humorous book. I'm continuing to work my way through the Brothers Karamazov during flights to and from visiting my girlfriend.

Around half-way through 'Chopper' now, pretty poor book... I thought it had received really great reviews, but must've been a different book. Damn my speccy-wearing stupidity.

Thomas Costain's The Last Plantagenets. So far a stirring conclusion to a great series, and all the more wonderful because it actually happened. Great stuff.

I just got the new Naomi Klein book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism for my birthday. So I'll be spending the next few weeks reading that.

I was just given a Wilbur Smith book by my younger sister for Christmas: an Egyptian sucker titled Warlock. It's pretty good; writing style fairly informal and descriptive with some beautiful passages. Story's not too bad either. Only thing I disliked about it is there is a violent rape-and-murder combo at the end - normally that kinda stuff turns my stomach (self-confessed feminist and gentleman) but this one was just plain nasty. David Carruso wouldn't see one as bad as this.
I'm not pessimistic; I've just realised that the light at the end of the tunnel is an incoming train.

Gordon Ramsay's new book 'Playing with Fire' -- instead of a recipe book, or a biography on his life, it's like a look through his experiences and the lessons he learned from owning both succcessful and failed businesses. Very interesting read. smile.gif

I'm re-reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road now, because I saw No Country for Old Men and got hungry for some McCarthy.

It's even scarier the second time around. *shiver*
