One day, as I was feeling particularly angry at the state of disrepair movies are in today, and in particular the decline of the Lucas idol on my childhood altar, I did a Google search for "I hate Phantom Menace". I found myself reading some of the most hilarious mockery of the Star Wars Prequels I'd seen to date, and eventually I wandered into the forum to see what kind of minds might be hanging around. Chances were, I'd run into something funny to drown out the festering rancour of disgust I was feeling over the Star Wars disillusionment phenomena.

And I have to say, I haven't been disappointed. I find a lot of what I read here to be a panacea for my bitterness. There's an awful lot of intelligent life in here, and so I decided after months of lurking to take the plunge. Do I have anything to say? I don't know yet. Who knows this might be the only thing I post. But I figured I ought to at least lay blame openly on the people who most convinced me maybe I should say something. Seeing as soon the third prequel will be out soon, and thus there will be fresh material to stir up, I may as well load the torpedo tubes and get stuck in!

Civilian Number Two
Every good board has a giant brain encased in a robotic behemoth, and civnum2 is it. These are the folks who are on the ball and intelligent enough to stretch your brain stem. You can always count on them to have something meaningful to say because they don't waste time, and they are mature enough to see things clearly. I spent a lot of time hunting down this dude's posts just to see what the hell he had to say about anything at all. And as a result I read a lot of people's posts I might not have at first glance. Who's going to shoe this giant robot? You better get a bigger boat!

Just Your Average Movie Goer
Another sign of a good board is the big-hearted bear. They're all over the place, and they've got lots to say because they have a whole lotta feeling about a whole lotta stuff. Its encouraging to see someone with their guts in the right place, spawning debate about all sorts of things. And JYAMG is always ready to talk about it in detail because that's just the way they are. There just isn't any lasting malice in this person, just a lot of passion for what they like or don't like. I'm a sucker for the big hearted debates, and it didn't hurt that JYAMG used Boromir's pic either. Total respect to ya!

Jariten
You know, I aboslutely cannot stand Jariten's point of view. But I absolutely respect that Jariten refuses to compromise the intelligence of his/her viewpoint and is always unfailingly polite. And the fact that the board accepts Jariten (even if they don't accept Jariten's views) is a real positive. It elevates this board above the merely good and makes it something more. Its a really unrewarding position to be in, on a forum where one is the derided minority opinion, and it speaks well of Jariten and the board that he/she sticks by their guns and never gives up. It balances the board out and makes the debate actually *legitimate* and *credible* beyond the need for mutual support. Jariten insists that we do better, and so we all do.

Helena
I have to say I really underestimated Helena at first. She's cleverer and more perceptive than I gave her credit for. Now that I'm paying attention, I see that there's some incredible intelligence, maybe on the order of "hard core heavy metal destruction" brain power. That wit of hers is sharper than a papercut and ow, I sure would pay money to see her and Lucas duke it out in a deconstruction match! Helena's always there, like a hawk, ready to pounce on any interesting tidbit of discussion and make a worthwhile statement. It raises the bar because you can't take anything for granted and you have to pay attention. Helena is the "Gothca!", waiting in the background to kick it up a notch.

Hannibal
More than anyone else, Hannibal convinced me I this board was worth something. Half the time I have no clue what the hell he is talking about. Most of the time I laugh at the brain stem pulling activities he pulls. I certainly have a hard time following his message. Its as if a real Star Wars alien landed on the board and is trying to cram some basic Blaster 101 into our ape's brains, and wondering when we'll advance to the stone knives and bearskins level so we can help him repair his ship. There was a lot of confusion and hostility with Hannibal at first, but then the board did something I didn't expect. They accepted him and let him have his say. Well, in a way Hannibal's presence here, like Jariten's, increases the power level of the board and makes it more than even an intelligent place to talk. Hannibal challenges assumptions and I like that.

Its folks like these that convinced me to finally sign up. This board is okay by me. I'm patting people on the rear end here and passing a copy of the home game with some tutle wax. Good job and well done. And now everyone knows who to blame when they see my latest post and think its lame!

Wow, that's a hell of a post. I should let you know that Jariten is actually a Beta-test responsebot we designed to play Devil's Advocate after the alpha test, Hannibal, proved such an odd failure.

And yes, we all have secret crushes on Helena.

Welcome to the forum.

The fact that people still find this site after all these years by typing the words "star wars" and "hate" into Google warms my heart. That's all the payment I could every hope for. wink.gif

Don't follow, peer into the heart of it and laugh, and then ask your self a question: Do human beings ever consider that what they think they know is only what they want to know? ...or...that there is truly nothing to know at all, except that pain is inevitable?

Good luck with your posts, and may the hatred of george lucas be with you, always.

@Kirby: Don't worry, you and the others I neglected to mention are on the special features disc under "deleted scenes". I just didn't have the technology available to make my realization of you folk look good. Wait for the post-special, special edition!

As for archetypes, I always saw myself as a blaster wielding, lightsaber swinging Han Solo in the old days. But after playing a few rounds of the X-Wing games I realized the closest I'll ever be to a Star Wars Archetype will be Porkins. The Star Wars fantasy vacation is propped up by a heap of bodies - a few winners, and a whole lot of losers exploding into space with a death scream.

@civnum2: Bahahahaa! I'm called out! Good judgement. I didn't even know it myself. But that's why you are the big brain with the giant robot tasks. Keep on stompin!

@chefelf: Hahaha! Yup, the satisfaction of a job well done. Giving voice to all the people out there who feel like Banquo at the party. Feel the power of the Dark Side!

@Hannibal: I gota fat belly full of hatred festering like a boil, and I'm ready to spew into Lucas's "Cocteau Plan - Be Well" foie gras dinner. I'm going to give him all the hell I got to spare.
