I apologize for the shameless plug, but anyone familiar with the horrible movie that was Exorcist: The Beginning by director Renny "Mr Geena Davis" Harlin and the controversy surrounding the original prequel, directed by Paul Schrader will be glad to know that two members of Bloody News were invited by Paul Schrader (Affliction and writer of Raging Bull and Taxi Driver) to veiw his version of the film Exorcist: The Beginning, now titled Paul Schrader's Exorcist: The Original Prequel. His movie was shelved by Morgan Creek Entertainment because the president of the company James G. Robinson deemed it poorly shot and not gory enough for the skateboard generation. The reviews of the movie can be viewed HERE. These are the first two people in the world to view this movie. It is scheduled to premier at Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Films tomorrow. There will be an indepth and exclusive interview with The director of the film Paul Schrader that should post sometime in the next day or two.

Hopefully, this film will be released on DVD soon.

Paul Schrader addresses this very topic in his soon to be posted interview. He reports that there is a push for a limited release of his film in key US cities. If the results are positive to the limited release, possibly a larger domestic run in theaters. His film will most likely see a DVD release. It is a great piece of art and deserves to be seen by many dissapointed Exorcist fans and Schrader fans as well.

Oh and Hannibal, Thanks for resisting the urge to call me a Nazi. I know it was hard and shows great restraint on your part! whistling.gif

Speaking of EXORCIST, I am curious to know everybody's opinions on the spectrum of Exorcist movies, Catholic "Superhero" movies, and Angel/Devil films that have come out since the original Exorcist...

heres a few:

Exorcist II
Exorcist III
Prince of Darkness (John Carpenter's)
The Prophesy Trilogy with Christopher Walken
Lord of Illusions...(Constantine-ish)
Fallen with Denzel Washington
Possessed with Timothy Dalton
Frailty
Hellboy
Van Helsing
Constantine with Keanu Reeves
Exorcist the Beginning (last summer)
?

I actually loved the first prophecy movie. The followers were kind of weak and none of the good angels managed to be as cool as either Mortensen's Lucifer, Walken's Gabriel or Simon (the chap who got his heart ripped out in P1) The unlikability of the good guys was a big problem in the sequels. Fallen was very enjoyable.

Hellboy was alright as far as that kind of movie goes, though I really am getting tired of the nazi villains. Really, every superhero either fights nazis or commies. Be creative people! I'd like to see a superhero who fights terrorists. He spends most of his time running around Saudi Arabia and Iraq and looking around in caves. What powers he would have I do not know.

Also, I already gave my opinion on the review, which was very well written, but as for the movie I'm genuinely excited, I like the fact that they don't try to directly involve it to the sequel and link it in every possible way, like SOME prequels do.

The payoff is that Morgan Creek and Warner Brothers are going to release "Paul Schrader's Exorcist: The Beginning," in the next two months.

It's an unprecedented move. The production company hates the film so much that instead of releasing it, re-shoots it. Then it makes another, really bad, film. But it's forced to release the original when critics applaud it.
