Wouldn't socialized medicine mean that everything was paid for through taxes and such? I'm not really quite sure what socialized medicine means.

It is instituted in England and Canada and Cuba among other countries. It basically answers the problem Hannibal has brought up. And yeah, it uses tax money to pay for it. It's kind of a trade, Canada and Cuba and England dont have massive armies and the latter two rarely participate in wars, so they can put that money into silly things like helping people.

And yeah, socialized medecine,which is great, shoulkd not be discounted. And you don't need to have a limited military to have it: in the US, if you can prove that you can't afford insurance, the state will cover your minimal medical expenses. You're only billed for not having insurance if you can't make a good argument for not having it. Unlike Canada, where paying medical insurance is MANDATORY, in the US you can opt out but with consequences. Contrary to myth, however, you are not "high and dry" under that system if you are poor. You're covered, below a certain income, by government insurance programs. So the US is also socialist; they just don't like to brag about it.
