Any Mac users out there who use the Apple-compatible version of MSN messenger may be interested to know that Microsoft is planning on discontinuing that particular service. Sounds like a mighty fine time to switch to AIM.

Great. All they have to do is discontinue the Windows version and I'll be happy. wink.gif

How many products has Microsoft discontinued for other OSs? It was just last year that they abandoned IE for the Macintosh, right?

Do they really think people are going to switch to PC to continue using MSN Messenger? It's not like anybody on MSN doesn't also have an AIM account.

I'm not convinced that that's a bad thing...

Chefelf:
Ouch. Just...ouch. I like my MSN, but prefer it when it's modded (ie: sans advertising).
Laura:
Good point, but I don't think that it's so much that they're trying to convert people to the PC (chances are that they stopped using PCs for a reason, right?), I think it just has more to do with...well, actually I can't think of any reason for them doing this.
And as far as IE goes, you all know how I feel. I split my browser preference between Opera and Firefox. I mainly use Opera, but I have to use Firefox for my Gmail account, since Google didn't build in support for Opera with it. For some reason. I'm not sure why.

Not really. I don't know a single person in real life with an AIM account. Only people on forums seem to have them. I mean, whats the point of AIM when you already have msn? It's just another thing to download that most people don't seem to have.

To be honest, I'm surprised that MS actually made mac versions of msn and IE and whatnot.

Maybe it's a regional thing. Every single human I know has an AIM account. Only one single human that I know has an MSN account, but she also has an AIM account.

AIM's popularity seems to be centralized directly in the US. I seem to be the only Canadian that I know who uses it, but most all of my American buddies (ie: L&E affiliates, and a few others) have an AIM account.

I didn't even know what AIM was until I came here, so if that's enlightening...

I had never heard of AIM before I joined my Enemy Territory clan. I don't bother logging into it anymore since everyone in my new clan has MSN and none of them have MSN, but all my real life friends have MSN and only one of the has AIM and he rarely logs into it.
