I played Monkey Island back when I was six or seven.  Problem was, our version was buggy and would freeze when you tried to buy the boat.  It's odd, at 4 disks, it was the biggest Amiga game I ever saw.  But when I went to download it, it was only about 3 Mb.

Amiga disks were 454kbs or something or the high desnsity ones were 700 odd kbs.

Monkey Island 2 for the amigs clocked in at around 12 disks, I remember... smile.gif

Monkey Island was four disks on Amiga? Whoa. On our IBM it was eight.

Also, George Stobbart = total cockwrench.

I dunno, I found him quite amusing myself.

I've found the best way to immerse yourself in an adventure is to just play yourself in the First Person. I've recently rediscovered Myst (I had it for my Mac) and while it took time to get the balance right, by Myst III the series was a work of genius.

You genuinly believed yourself to be in these amazing 'ages' you were meant to explore. And the fact you played an unseen 'stranger' meant you could really be yourself.

Of course, it means that as a character little humour or story can be derived from you, outside the whole 'trying to explore/get rich/get home' format. But it's very difficult to make a believab;e character who is liked by all. Look at Stobbie. Loved and Hated.

Myst 2 was the best. I haven't played 4 though, and got annoyed at Uru very quickly and lost interest. Though I have to say that I loved the pinball era in Myst 3.

Monkey Island forever

On another note, if I ever get round to making the music, nicking the sound effects and adding the finishing touches to the backgrounds I'll release the game I've been meaning to release for months now.

Noooooooooooooooooo!!!! I finally get close to finishing my game and my bloody computer crashes. I'm using my laptop, hopefully its only the memory that is to blame so when I get my replacement in the post the data on my hard drives will still be there, otherwise I'll have lost all music, game files, aswell as all of the sprites. *Note to self, use back up* which will set me back over 3 weeks behind in a schedule due to finish like 3 months ago.

Pinball Age ROCKS. Got Myst IV now, its probably the best feeling of immersion in an adventure ever. I got quite a buzz from completing Riven though - I had to look at the UHS once or twice, but the most trickiest puzzle (the marble one) I solved without help.

And the ending? FANTASTIC. I had read the Book of Atrus, and understood how everything fitted together. Ending the game the same way - falling into the Star Fissure, along with the Myst book - gave me such a brilliant buzz.

That was a most valuable contribution and needed to be made.
