Hi everyone..
I just thought I'd let people know about this.

I was just perusing my debit card statement.. (applies to credit card statements too)
And what did I find?

a $29.99 charge from Pluto Data Ltd.

I didn't make that... so I do a quick google or two... and find out that there has been a large number of people who have gotten this charge lately. It is obviously fraudulent after listening to the stories about people calling and being told they bought some DVD, but the shipping address was way way off, etc.. The company no longer has phone service either.

The curent Theory is that the information was stolen from ChoicePoint. One of the Credit Reporting Agencies that gets checked for when you apply for a loan etc.

After talking to the bank people here.. They said They couldn't do anything at the moment because the charge was Pending.. but if it goes through I should call them back..
Most likley I'll have to cancle that card and get a new one.
If you have the charge you should do the same.

Also (This applies mostly to people in the US I believe..)
Everyone should go to the big three Credit Reporting companies and get their credit history and make sure it is correct. These companies are legaly obligated to provide you a report for free (I believe every year?) But even if you have to pay it is only like $5.

Nothing like trying to go buy a condo and finding a $300,000 mortgage on their already!
(happend to my parents.)

Also these guys have other information on you too..
When I was in TX, I couldn't get car insurance initially because Equifax said I had multiple DUIs and my licsense revoked several times! Granted the Massachusettes DMV hadn't a clue about that!

So just an important reminder to help everyone out, out there!

Hope you didn't have the charge like I did.. because it sucks sad.gif
