this show just premiered last night...

so far so good, anyone watch this show?

i like the choice of girl in the lead, as in the fact that they didn't push the cynical grumpy teenager thing too far by making her a goth or anything.

some cool concepts i thought...

You're just getting it now? I think that show has already been cancelled.

Too bad. I thought it was funny, and they filmed a lot of it pretty close to my house.

I heard of it a while back when it first started and thought it sounded all right, but I've never been able to see any of it because it was on a channel we didn't get. What was it? HBO? Cinemax? Showtime? One of those movie channels, I think...

I know the DVD case has a picture of Death blowing a big pink gum bubble on it, and to me, that is cool. thumbsup.gif

A friend of mine mentioned it last night. Seeing as it was a choice between pay tv and internet, you can understand why I haven't seen it advertised.

welcome to my world...

just saw the second episode... i'm loving this. i love the fact that the young guy got killed in the 60s by drilling a hole in his own head to try and get high on the blood rush to his brain.

I only saw one episode on sky one, but I really liked it. Nice idea for a show, and original too. Unfortunately however, it is nearly always original shows that crash and burn after one season because the public are too loyal to the usual brand of formulatic shit. I always like it when the Grim Reaper(s) are shown, not as monsters who want to rip familys apart and cause people hideous grief, but as nice caring people who are doing an unpleasant but necessary job. If people were allowed to live forever, they would either be forced to give up the joys of having children or end up living in a world as squashed as a sardine can, y'see. Its even better when it shows the psychological effects on people doing said job, like the book or film The Green Mile. (My personal favourite SK ever) This is one of the many reasons why Terry Pratchetts Discworld novels (used to) kick arse. IMHO the Discworld version of the dark ol' Reaper Man is the best that has ever been used, in any artform, anywhere.

Oh yeah, and a girl called George always kicks arse. I like anything that puts me in mind of my happy experiences with literature as a child. (We are the Famous Five, the Famous Five, the famous Julian, Dick and Anne, George and Timmy the dog, Cha cha cha!)

I've watched the first season on DVD. If I recall correctly, it originally aired on Showtime. The first couple of episodes are really interesting and show a lot of promise. Then it goes downhill. It becomes kind of convoluted. I also remember that they ended up neglecting some of the finer points and rules that were outlined during the first couple episodes.

It's definately worth watching, but I enjoy Six Feet Under much more.
