British comedy is my religion. Red Dwarf, Spaced, Blackadder, the Young Ones, the Office... oh, you get the idea. It's a lot better than Friends anyway. Though I do have a fondness for Frasier and Cheers.

What annoyed me was that he identified Father Ted as a british sit-com. Whats even more annoying is that he's technically correct. Its produced by channel four, an english station. The fucking IDIOTS in RTE (The main irish television station by the way) would never make something like this if their lives depended on it. I maintain however, that it is in essence an IRISH comedy.

Its set in Ireland
The actors are irish
The script writers are irish
The humour is, essentially irish
Its filmed in Ireland (The exteriors anyway)

EVERYTHING else on irish tv is shit. PLEASE let us have this. It's the only cool thing that has ever come out of Ireland. EVER.

I try very hard to take pride in being irish, but I have to admit its extremely fucking hard sometimes.

Drinking whiskey is like pouring pure sulphuric acid down your throat, followed by hitting yourself over the head with a sledgehammer. Not that it doesn't have a certain charm, but I prefer snorting glue. That's glue sniffing taken to the logical conclusion.

No, good whiskey is lush, you've described Black Death Tequilla.

I, for no reason at all, would like to make the following joke.

Q. Why did the mexican shove his wife off the cliff?
A. Tequila!

Thank you.

Oh and by the way, thank you Chyld, for being the first person to put a quote of my ramblings on the arse of your posts.

I hold whiskey to be far superior to the Vodka that you mentioned before.

I can't deal with lots of vodka, which is annoying, as its all I ever seem to drink on Mondays. A nice bourbon, or even a shot of tequilla, something that doesn't make me think "I've just done a shot of paraffin".

And VD, you can't not use a comment about getting lashed as a sig...

On the VVW (Vodka Versus Whiskey) debate, I would like to express my feelings about said beverages via the ancient art of analogy. Try to imagine yourselves in the following situations:

VODKA

You are in a lush meadow, making love to a beautiful woman whom you love deeply, and who loves you deeply back. As you climax simutaneously, tears start to roll down your face as you realise this is the happiest a mortal man can possibly be.

WHISKEY

You are walking home, after a hard days work. It's a Friday. You are looking forward to an enjoyable weekend of sitting on your arse playing video games. You are feeling pretty good. You like life. Hell, you LOVE life. In fact, you start to whistle a merry tune as you skip happily down the street.

WHEN SUDDENLY...

A meteorite is pulled into the earths gravitational field, falls screaming through the atmosphere at a velocity of 85 metres per second, and hits you smack in the bollocks.

I realise some people may feel differently. You'll have to forgive me, my taste buds have been horribly mutated due to frequent bouts of cunnilingus.

What about rum? What's that like? I'm pretty sure that if I ever start drinking, I want to try that first.

So come on, full details here, people. Remember you're talking to a girl who's never touched booze in her life. Reccomendations?

Starting with hard alcohol? Yeesh . . .

That may be an error, Jane. I've found in my massive drinking experience that the regulation of alcohol for a first time drinker is a very delicate thing. Vomit usually ensues.

Stick with the "bitch" beers for the first time out. They taste like lemonade instead of the lighter fluid-like burning of cheep vodka.

Or the sugery evils of an alcopop. My brother still lives on Smirnoff Ice. If you're eager enough, go for a Snakebite, making sure its Black. Hence, beer, cider and blackcurrant cordial. Hell, works for me...

Speaking as a person with too little blood in his alcohol stream, I find people who have never touched booze in their lives distressing. You have never fucking LIVED girl! If you are having any doubts, look at this:

1. Alcohol kills brain cells
2. Ignorance is bliss

QED

I have to admit however, I have no idea what rum tastes like. I thought only pirates drank that.

Quite. Wankers.

That said, Killinascully was decent enough - nowhere near as good as Fr Ted of course, but probably the best sit-com Irish telly has produced. (Unless you count Pat Shortt's 'local politican' series that was on X-It Poll in 2002. That was fucking great!)

Our output of shit sitcoms has been fantastic though. The Cassadies, Upwardly Mobile, um... does Fair City count as a sitcom? I'm sure there's more, but thankfully I've managed to block them from memory. Oh yeah, the god-awful Stew, but that was a sketch show, not a sitcom. Still terrible though.

Jane, rum is bad. Well, that's a bit of a blanket statement, let me be more specific. Here rum pretty much means Bundeburg Rum. I had a bottle, and didn't mind sharing it around(regardless of how expensive spirits are). Though my friend loves Baquardie(white rum)mixed with vanilla coke. Not normal coke, only vanilla coke.

I've only ever had one shot of tequilla, so I can't reall say.

Vodka is terrible. Really. It can be mixed with somethings to make it drinkable(such as Argum), but it's usually a 'knock it back fast to minimize the taste' affair. I hate the aftertaste.

Whiskey is good. I often drink Canadian Club, which I mix with Dry Ginger Ale. Jameson's is better, but much more expensive, out of my range as a student.

Burbon's ok, but I prefer whiskey. Goes well with lemonade, or just shots.

Wine, I can't stand. But goon's popular admist some crowds. 4 litres for $10 is a good price.

Beer varies from one brand to the next. Personal preference really.

Cider can be good, though I have an aversion to it from drinking when I was ill. I've never tried snakebite, but Chyld swears by it.

Chicks drinks(pre-mixes)are tasty, but are undrinkable by any male. You may like to start there, but be careful, as it's easy to knock them back pretty quickly.

Depthcharges can be fun. One of only two uses for vodka. Not quite fill a cup with beer, then drop a shotglass of vodka in(yes, drop the whole glass). Skull it whilst the vodka is bubbling up. Incidentally, the first time I got drunk was off depthcharges.

Goon punch is the other use for vodka. Into a large container/bucket, pour out an entire goonbag, a bottle of vodka, a bottle of lemonade, a litre of apricot necter and a bottle of ginger ale(I think thats it). Add some fruit(pineaple, cherries, etc), ice if its warm. Stir(with a machette if you have one, though thats mostly just traditional), then ladel into cups.

That should give you a few ideas.
