Remains of ten bodies at Ben Franklin's home

The Sunday Times

WORKMEN have dug up the remains of ten bodies hidden beneath the former London home of Benjamin Franklin, the founding father of American independence.

The remains of four adults and six children were discovered during the £1.9 million restoration of Franklin's home at 36 Craven Street, close to Trafalgar Square. Researchers believe that there could be more bodies buried beneath the basement kitchens.

Initial estimates are that the bones are about 200 years old and were buried at the time Franklin was living in the house, which was his home from 1757 to 1762, and from 1764 to 1775. Most of the bones show signs of having been dissected, sawn or cut. One skull has been drilled with several holes. Paul Knapman, the Westminster Coroner, said yesterday: "I cannot totally discount the possibility of a crime. There is still a possibility that I may have to hold an inquest."

The principal suspect in the mystery is William Hewson, like Franklin a Fellow of the Royal Society, and the husband of Polly Stevenson, the daughter of Franklin's landlady, Mary Stevenson.

In the early 1770s Dr Hewson was in partnership with William Hunter, who, with his brother John, was one of the founders of British surgery. Dr Hunter and Dr Hewson ran a school of anatomy in Soho, but after an argument Dr Hewson left to live in Franklin's house, where he is believed to have established a rival school and lecture theatre. Dr Knapman added yesterday: "It is most likely that these are anatomical specimens that Dr Hewson disposed of in his own house, but we are still not certain about the bones' exact age or origin."

Evangeline Hunter-Jones, deputy chairman of the Friends of Benjamin Franklin House, the charity concerned with restoring the property and opening it to the public, said: "The bones were quite deeply buried, probably to hide them because grave robbing was illegal. There could be more buried, and there probably are."

Hmmm aside from the intentionally misleading name this is kind of interesting. It was well known that at the time in England body theivery was all the rage. It's featured in various books from that era and the practitioners of this art were known as "ressurection men"

I believe they used to dig up the recently-deceased for the scientific purpose of human dissections, so maybe that's what happened. Or possibly he really did like killing people.

Or this story is totally bunk... Although I guess it's possible that there's a Trefalgar Street in London. There are a whole bunch of bizarre street names. Although it would only be cool if there was a Billy Pilgrim on that street.

There is indeed a Trafalger Square in London, I was there in December. Its home to Nelson's Column, and a shitload of pidgeons...

Admiral Trafalgar is a war hero of the royal navy. It only makes sense there'd be a lot of streets named for him.

These's no such guy as Admiral Trafalgar as far as I know. Admiral Nelson kicked Franco-Spanish butt at the battle of Trafalgar though, and kept us (and probably America) from speaking French for the rest of eternity.

I just felt like referencing Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5. And Monopoly sucks for many reasons.

Gah duly noted you're right. It was Admiral Horatio Nelson at the battle of Trafalgar. If I'm not mistaken I believe that was his last hurrah as some put it and he died amid the battle. Sorry about that.

There are a number of interesting features quite close the the Benjamin Franklin House. The Royal Society of the Arts (RSA)is nearby, as is Adam Street and Adelphi House. Strangely, they seem to have an obsession with schools, children and 'education'. They network in the underground private club 'Adam Street'.

The youtube video 'Ark and the Adam's Family' indicates who some of these so-called 'charities' and corporations are, the corruption going on there and the links between hedge funds and school sponsorship.

Also worth watching is the related Video 'Ark schools, academies and eugenics.'
