FBI urges police to watch for people carrying almanacs
Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

WASHINGTON -- The FBI is warning police nationwide to be alert for people carrying almanacs, cautioning that the popular reference books covering everything from abbreviations to weather trends could be used for terrorist planning.

The FBI noted that use of almanacs or maps may be innocent, "the product of legitimate recreational or commercial activities." But it warned that when combined with suspicious behavior-- such as apparent surveillance-- a person with an almanac "may point to possible terrorist planning."

The FBI also recommends that you keep a watchful eye on anyone you catch writing things down.

I saw an Arabic man on the bus reading the Guiness Book of World Records the other day. I called the police and they systematically beat him into unconsciousness.

Don't call me a hero. I'm just trying to do my part in the war on terror.

I saw a suspicious character in the alley (with a very large beard) pushing a shopping cart carrying various items with which i'm sure one could fashion nuclear arms out of - called the authorities and beatings were administered. One more day of freedom, my friends.

Almanacs? Oh that's funny. We are getting too paranoid. Next it will be "beware of anyone reading any books! Books can put ideas in your head!"

Look, someone reading an almanac! They must be a terrorist! Aaaaaaahhh!!!! *hides*

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....

Well all codes are breakable except for the kind that requires a "key." The FBI, apparently, were on to a "key" that some terrorist cell was using, and it was the Farmer's Almanac. They informed the police, so they could get info on anyone who fit certain profiles and was seen with the posible key in hand. The media found out and decided to blab it so that it's now impossible to exploit, and now the terrorists may use a different key.

I don't get the media at all. Sometimes they act like they are tools of the people in power, and at other times they act like a gossip at a party who just heard something noone should ever repeat. I mean, there's no Pullitzer Prize for selling government intelligence to the other side.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

No need to thank me, but I single handedly burnt down a library last night. Let's see those bastards try anything now...

now that they know we're on to them, couldn't they just wrap the almanacs in MAD magazine?

incidentally, the little hole in the corner of the almanac is for hanging on a nail in an outhouse. I know you're glad to know this.
