Well, I do find Swastika and Nazis uniforms offensive. It is just as somebody mentioned earlier, there are still people who remember the atrocities and may feel offended by feeling their sufferings is a subject of cheap mockery.

Well, some symbols are making feeling people this way. We had a case in Poland of one artist, who used in her crappy video installation a symbol of cross with a photography of male genitalia pinned to it and a video of a man working out in a gym. Some Catholic fundamentalist sued her and she was actually tried and sentenced for mockery of religious symbol.

And there was a big scandal when some clothes designer showed clothes made from fabric on which the patter was excerpts from Coran (the Muslim's holy book, I might get the spelling wrong). Some people were very upset and he apologised a lot.

So the sybols are pretty sensitive issue, best avoided by people who represent countries.

the insensitivity angle is an obvious one, but it begs to clarify my earlier point...

how come no one found 'Hogans Heroes' offensive?
it was only 20 years later, and they portrayed the nazis as a bumbling bunch of loveable half-wits...

more importantly... he was dressing up as a bad guy. bad guy's are offensive... i don't think it's to PC to be a little shocked by it, but it is less than reasonable to assume affiliation on the basis of a costume warn at costume party...

especially when John Wayne remained a hero after saying: "indians were just being greedy" in reference to the colonisation of america.

Didn't see that specific film you mentioned Barend.

But I do not think westerns (because it sounds like a western) from the 60 were much in terms of political correctness. It was an era when it was still ok to portray Indians and stupid dirty vermin that needed to be eliminated or civilised, which in the end amounted to the same.

I saw one westers some six months ago and I was SHOCKED by the portrayal of Indians. There was this girl who was Indian but was rised by white farmers and didn't know about it. And then her brother comes to claim her as Indian and in the end she SHOTS him, which was shown as a triumph of civilisation over barbarism. I was sick when I saw it. sick.gif

I'd be sick too. It's a horrible abuse of theme and culturally insensitive too.

Edit: It's great to see you back on the forums, Ms. Corvax!

If displaying the nazi symbol illegal in Germany because the Nazis commited mass genocide in Germany... Why isn't the American army symbol illegal in Iraq?

I agree with Icey, the Nazi uniform are pretty stylish, its understand why people became Nazis, and why people feared them when they were wearing such freaken cool uniforms

Because the appearance of someone is so strongly related to how much people will like them?

Are you saying that the American military is comitting genocide? That is the most absurd statement I have heard today. unsure.gif

I believe that the young Prince Harry made a bad decision. I do not however think he is pro Nazi. He may be in need of some education on the atrocities the Nazi party participated in. I think that he deserves to be made an example of. But I do not think that he is in any way a Nazi. A bit misguided and foolish but certainly not a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer.

Yeah, he isn't the only one.

Would you like a lesson? Everyone else here has had one, but for you, newbie, I'll cook up something special...

I can't decide if I want to laugh or take that as a threat, Hannibal :-P

I'll be damned for saying this, but lay it on him. Just not too hard, and obviously without spouting off insults directed at him and such.
