Schools taking truants to court

Being a fan of skipping school myself I really think this is bordering on harassment and fascism. I can completely understand why kids might not want to attend public schools. What I cant understand is what good the state thinks it'll do to force them to take drug tests, go to counseling, have their families take drug tests or drag them into court. The natural reaction of someone taking me to court is me saying "fuck you" and then refusing to cooperate with them as much as I can. I know they claim this is a last resort but I still find it kind of sick that they'd even consider harassing people that much.

Lovely. The purpose is not to use the hammer but show that it's there. I think that's the same principle the Thought Police work on.

Being a person who despised being thrown through the public school system (the only things I managed to learn have turned me into an asocial cynic), that's fairly offensive. Taking a minor to court for not going to school? Isn't it the parent's responsibility to send the child off, not the courts? That's a big waste of money, none of which is coming from the No Child Left Behind Act, which sends 90% of its funds to private Christian schools according to a PBS report. But as long as their average looks good!

Trying to force someone to do something only makes them push harder in the opposite direction.
