I just flipped a coin and it says outlier...

Now, this is from my linguistics exam from this Saturday (authentic material, I just thought I'd share it with you )

Your friend borrowed from you you lecture notes and now you need them back. So you go to your friend and say "You won't been needing my lecture notes now, I'm sure". By saying this you

a) Make a direct request
cool.gif make an indirect request
c) impose on your friend a face-threatening notion
d) show negative politeness

Either C or D, depending on the tone of how it was said.

Black and white or shades of gray?

We're talking the shades of your soul.

[aside]Out of curiosity MC, did you type that question word for word? It's just that for an english exam, I noticed the english was a bit clumsy. "...borrowed your lecture notes" would have been better then "borrowed from you your lecture notes". I find it quite odd, as you usually use impeccable English, and an English exam should as well. As a side note, be thankful I binned my exam question sheet after I left. That wasn't nice.[/aside]

I do, but I haven't played it in ages.

The little horsey guy goes in an "L" shape, right?

Yes, but he's not a "little horsey guy", he's a "knight". And it's a "rook", not a friggin' "castle"!

Edit: How often do you click post before you type out your question?

No, me, hopefully. I'm sorry, I missed my question and got sidetracked.

Three, but they're weak bounds so it's more like one.

Is work worth it?

Well, if you want to eat and have some form of life, I guess. If I didn't work, I'd have no money to afford social activities.

Dole, I suppose, but that can be considered as a sort of work too
Or retirement.

Is the purpose of wearing low-cut trousers to show off your underwear?

(about my exam question - this is how I remembered it - the awkwardness might be just me not rememering it properly, or my English declining rapidly - I am after four hours of Use of English exam and it had a bit stupefying effect on me. )

Showing off underwear, show off your legs, because it's comfortable, or because it's hot outside. Depends on the person.
