I was wondering as to how much of the original trilogy's special effects shots were left in the new boxed set of DVDs. Say, for example, have all the model ships been completely replaced with CGI ships?? This would be one of the greatest blow for me in terms of of ever picking up the boxed set.

*Shrugs* The "Alien" movies' effects still look great; all four films used models for their starships.

For the most part the models have been left in. There have been a few changes such as the 1997 replacement of the X-wing fleet's approach on the Death Star. There are a couple of weird additions. The Millenium Falcon appears as CGI at one point. Also Dash Rendar's Outrider appears in ANH. You may recall this character and his ship from the Shadows of the Empire book and N64 game. Odd choice.

Yes. I don't know where specifically but I remember noticing a few times.

That's the thing I remember the most about the OT SE 97 releases. We had a group, and every Friday night it was like calling a football game. "Look," "that's new," or "coool."

I also thought it was special when two summers later, STAR WARS was the local television station's Saturday afternoon movie and it was the SPECIAL EDITION!

Perceptively, the lameness started settling in with those Mos Eisley scenes and, a little later, the death star downy ball goes off! Even the local TV talent was mocking the Classic, blue-screening the bumpers with SE classic scenes.


It comes down to this: what matters is consistency. Keep it or lose crediblity.
Blatantly ignore the obvious if that's what you want to do.
