Hoy! That looks bad!!! And, gee, why are the doctor droids so much more advanced than the ones in ESB? I thought this was the past!?

Sheesh.

Thirty years ago we didn't know what AIDS/HIV was, let alone have drugs to treat it, kids were still getting smallpox vaccines, cancer was an automatic death sentence across the board, aspirin was your only over-the-counter pain reliever, migranes were something you had to live with, there was no such thing as Viagra, and not many people lived into their eighties.

I guess thirty years don't matter much, huh?

REalizing that this is SW and that some cultures could be behind on the technology since it is a vast galaxy which within it has been known to use droids, technology, and other stuff for over long periods of time. then yes it doesnt matter much. also the ot takes place in the downfall of technology, fashion, etc. for the rebel alliance

Whoever said there was a downfall in technology in the OT? Technology escalates in times of war. Just because the Rebellion isn't using top-of-the-line-stuff doesn't mean there's a downfall. It means their access to materiel is limited to last year's or last generation's models.

Da Sith! It's so much cooler with plastic sabers huh? smile.gif

As for all the talk about technology becoming advanced in a war or not, this is Star Wars. A fantasy fairy tale. The level of technology should remain basically the same. Star Wars is a universe that doesn't age in that sense. That said, I do agree that some things in the PT feel too advanced or "polished" (too damn CG) for the Star Wars galaxy.

KOTOR was 4000 years ago and it looks pretty much like the OT.

Jesus, the Dark Side changed Palpatine into that in less than two years? And yet it had no visible effect on Dooku at all? Or is he wearing a mask or something? I don't understand.

As for the technology, Sagacity is right. Given how advanced that society is already, it's just about plausible that you wouldn't see much development in thirty years (at least not in ways that are immediately apparent), but you certainly wouldn't expect it to go backwards. Wars tend to provoke massive spurts of technological development, at least in areas such as weaponry, communications and medicine - with the resources at its disposal, the Empire at least should be at the cutting edge of technology, and the Rebels probably not far behind. There is no reason why everything in the PT should seem so much more advanced - except that Lucas thinks it looks cool.

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Sagacity and Helena are right. In times of war, technology advances. It is because of major wars that we have a lot of the technology we have today, including computers for example. The first computer was designed to break German code during World War II. War creates a need for technology ~ a rather urgent need. This in turn leads to technology being developed faster.

So she can hear George Lucas make up a bullshit explanation for this stupid inconsistency? Yeah, good one, shit-for-brains. Can I call you shit-for-brains or do only your friends get to call you that?

Also, in order to watch Star Wars (oh, sorry... A New Hope) with the commentary on, that would require Sagacity to get a copy of the DVDs.

Now why the hell would anyone here, except for you and Jariten, want the DVDs? The DVDs are butchered versions of the films we love. We hate them.

Now honestly, why don't you go back to the Force.Net where you came from? I really think you'd be happier there.

Oh god..."shit-for-brains" that was so funny lmaorotf lol lol. And you call me the immature one mellow.gif

Because the dvds look great and dont look as crappy as the original releases. i really could care less whther boba fett is in them for about 1.5 seconds or the death star computer pannel was changed to english. Anyways the galaxy is huge, i doubt the whole galaxy would progress at exactly the same rate. Anyways the taliban or any middle eastern terror organization never had or has the best technology.

I didn't buy the DVDs, and I wouldn't buy GL's explanation, either.

I dared take a peek at them and they got me going I must admit. Sidious made me jump a bit when he suddenly appeared on my monitor.

As to the question of technology- how on earth would the rebels be able to get their hands on 30 year old technology from a society that no longer exists?

Well.. just a quick note about technology in time of war...

When you are the rebels.. and in the middle of a major battle..
You don't pay for chrome..
You pay for what you can afford and works... hence the X-Wings looking like crap, the driods being all bad, etc..

Although.. it could just be that CG wasn't big then... heheh
