Has anyone else read this fine presently-a-trilogy of books? In short, its about a 12 year-old boy genius (the kid I wish I'd been) and his dalliances with a race of hi-tech fairies. There's even a good crack at the way we treat the enviroment as well...

Those books are pretty interesting actually. They're the type of books where if someone were to describe them to you you would laugh at but once you start reading them they're hard to put down.

I've read all three and the other non-foul err.... fowl book that the author wrote. They were all right.

Actually, i have a lot to thank artemis fowl for. 3 years ago, when I was eleven, one of my older friends reccomended this to me. I liked it a lot, and from there went on to read the hobbit, and from there the Lord of the Rings.

I've read the first two Artemis Fowl books, and the Supernaturalists, all of which are very good books indeed. Very clever, too, and certainly better than the Harry Potter series.
Has anyone tried decoding the symbols they have at the bottom of the pages? Turns up some interesting results.

It's fantasy, right?

Haven't read it though.

I don't have enough patience for that sort of thing.

Been there, done that, decided it wasn't worth the effort and checked the net...

We all do, there's at least 12 people who post 30 or more posts a day. Including me, Chyld, barend, Jane, JYAMG, and a bunch of others I don't want to list.

Of course. I learned the ancient art of Spamming My Ass Off at the Altar of the Black Orc, and can outspam anyone in 13 different ways at once.

But lets not get sidetracked here...

The Artemis Fowl series is an example of a good idea executed badly. Well, perhaps not badly, but not nearly as well as it could have been. The character of Artemis is too inconsistant and isn't developed nearly so much as I'd have liked. And as someone who has studied accounts of fairies, folklore, and Irish mythology fairly extensively, I thought the whole concept of the creatures' society and abilities was rather poorly laid out. Artemis Fowl himself is the only decent character in the (first two) books, and is the only reason I read that far... and as I said, he didn't get explored nearly so thoroughly as he should have been. The plot and ideas themselves were really interesting and unusual, but the details ruined it for me.
