We all know the prequels suck, but is it possible that there are movies out there that are even worse? A friend of mine who saw "Van Helsing" came out and said that it was really bad. I asked how bad and she said "It makes the new Star Wars movies look good by comparison."

The films suck. But they suck because tens of millions of dollars were spent on them and all that came out the other end were mediocrities.
Believe me, there are thousands of films worse than anything Lucas ever made.

Oh there are certainly worse films than the PT, Deep Blue Sea comes to mind. I abolutely HATE that friggin' movie! I don't think I've ever watched a film where I WANTED every single character to die. Deep Blue Sea is one of the worst films ever made. ARRRGH just thinking about that movie is giving me a headache...

Yes ther are movies worse than the PT. But I can't really name much since I'm not all that much of a movie watcher... or maybe I am. How many movies do you watch in a year?

I saw some of It's a Wonderful Life tonight, about 2 hours worth. Changing channels with Sound of Music (genuine highlights, 30 minutes cumulative, during commercials) and, meh, 7 minutes of Home alone (on two, sequential channels, about 4 seconds off!)

but the Jimmy Stewart film was great. So nice that Potter doesn't get another chance at the building and loan, you know like in an awful, disappointing sequel.

Yeah, there are worse films. You tend to forget the bad ones but there are movies that, (like the PT), are so utterly worthless that they provoke so much contempt and hatred you simply cannot forget them. Especially if it's from a genre you usually enjoy. One particularly nauseating movie that belongs in this category is:

Dungeons & Dragons
Has anyone seen it? It's like a cheap theme park version of a fantasy film. The horrors of this film must be seen to be believed. Must have been incredibly embarrasing for Jeremy Irons who is usually great.

another great example and franchise killer is:

Batman & Robin
I don't even wanna discuss this one. I trust that Nolan and Bale will remedy the situation with Batman Begins this summer.

Let me be more specific:

Every film directed by Micheal Bey, almost every film directed by Jess Franco (almost 200 films right there), almost every film directed by Joe D'Amato (another 100 or so), every Blondie film from the 1930s, every Charlie Chan film from the same time period. Almost every Western in the 30s through the 50s that was ground out to run as a second feature, almost every Shaw Brothers kung fu film from the 1970s (hundreds and hundreds of films), about half of Roger Corman's output, all the disaster films that followed Poseidon Adventure and Towering Inferno, nearly all the films from the 30s intended for segregated all-black audiences (sorry, but its true), most Hong Kong films prior to its 80s renaissance, most films from Mexico, Bollywood, and other burgeoning film meccas (the everyday studio-ground-out movies, not the art films they export). And finally, about at least half of the soulless American summer blockbusters that apply Lucas's joyless principles far more efficently than Lucas himself ever could.

And, no, Titanic (a film that is obviously a deep labor of love by a genuinely gifted filmmaker) is not among this drekpile.
