A little more tinkering and it seems as though friendship directly effects your odds of getting promoted, rather than your promotion points value.

if you have the friendship bar fully maxed, then you have a pretty good chance of getting promoted once you hit the "Average" chance of promotion.

So far I haven't been able to initiate the Doreen side quest. Anyone have any information on that?

Is there a kind of reverse bump for this?

It says in the info for the game.

But I can't remember where because I haven't played it in about 2 years.

Deuc, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! YOU'VE AWAKENED THE MONSTER! IT WAS SUPPOSED TO STAY DEAD! NOW IT WANTS OUR BRAINS! D:

This game is too awesome to simply "stay dead." Damn the consequences!

To reiterate a statement I made in another thread:

QUOTE (Deucaon @ Aug 25 2008, 12:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have had a turn of heart... the game should be open source development as Yahtzee has no will to update the game, has made mistakes in his last few updates and I (as well as a handful of other people I can gather) have many ideas which we could program into the game.

Of course we need Yahtzee's approval as well the means to modify the game (i.e. the resources he used to make the game on AGS.)

"I felt insulted until I realized that the people trying to mock me were the same intellectual titans who claimed that people would be thrown out of skyscrapers and feudalism would be re-institutionalized if service cartels don't keep getting political favors and regulations are cut down to only a few thousand pages worth, that being able to take a walk in the park is worth driving your nation's economy into the ground, that sexual orientation is a choice that can be changed at a whim, that problems caused by having institutions can be solved by introducing more institutions or strengthening the existing ones that are causing the problems, and many more profound pearls of wisdom. I no longer feel insulted because I now feel grateful for being alive and witnessing such deep conclusions from my fellows."

Hey, I'm loving this game so far, but I've only been playing for 10 minutes before I've come across a major bug that means I have had to restart, so I decided to post this before I continue.
The issue is rather like the problem in the shower that I'm sure many of you have had (sorry, I haven't read all the posts).

when I try working out, I do so very fast. When I click the "ok" button, the character sprite continues to work out, though of course my strength/bodybuilding isn't growing at all. Then, when I try to move, nothing happens. I tried to use the showers; my sprite stayed on the workout bike but my hygiene and charisma rose. I still couldn't walk.

So, I was stuck there until my energy/nutrition/etc. ran out, which was an awesome way to spend the day...

sorry for the long post.

I think you could click on the map icon and move somewhere else. Not sure, been a few years since I last played this one.

David's correct, just click the map button on the toolbar and you can "teleport" to the rest of the ship. It's generally the quickest way of moving around anyway.

Yeah I figured that out but its still a bit of a problem. I think OK-ing should definitely stop your sprite from doing the action. it works fine with reading, but, for example, sleeping, showering, and working out, its still an issue.

Also, this is a minor thing; the door to the shower gym stays open after I've used it once, even after several days. Just saying.

True, but since Yahtzee doesn't work on this project anymore and we've had our share of fun with it before, it's kind of pointless to report bugs.

W-Well I think I'll make a post here before this thread completely dies again.
What do you think is the best use of hacking, what is the blaster for/how do you shoot people without getting caught/why would I want to shoot anyone?
Also, what's this about an "intelligence leak" that the game mentions early in the game? What's the use of high morals? Is it only good for a medal or what?

This game is pretty GRINDING, I don't know why I am playing it for more than one day, but I don't think I'll hit the end before I lose interest.

What do you think is the best use of hacking?

The best use I found of hacking is to purchase all those stats increasing drugs you need if you want to successfully complete the second assignment without crashing the game. (There's a bug in that assignment where you can either fail to fool the secretary, either succeed the mission completly, anything in between will just crash your game.)

QUOTE
what is the blaster for?

The top position of your career is occupied by someone, and you cannot be promoted to the top as long this person is on the ship. You can either wait 3-4 months for this person to leave the ship or you can speed up the process.

QUOTE
how do you shoot people without getting caught?

First you need to hack the control panel in the security room to disable to alarm, then you invite the person you want to kill on a date, and when the date is over and you are in front of your bedroom door, instead of wishing them good night, kill them. You can kill everyone this way except the captain.

QUOTE
why would I want to shoot anyone?

Other than faster promotion, the ending is probably different if you kill one or more persons.

QUOTE
Also, what's this about an "intelligence leak" that the game mentions early in the game?

I believe it is related to this Doreen's sidequest someone mentionned earlier. I never got that quest, I am probably wrong but my theory was to get this quest you must absolutly choose the medecine/science career as it seems to be the sole career path that allow you to access the bridge. Either that, or all 3 career paths access the bridge but around the end of the game, or the quest is available after the 3th assignment. But I never had the chance to verify myself because I got tired of all this grinding and the game interface only make the grinding longer and more tedious.

QUOTE
What's the use of high morals? Is it only good for a medal or what?

It sole purpose seems to change the outcome during assignments.

Interesting info nobody but me and AdamM knows, about Yahtzee touching this project again, if it can console yourself, he never completly forgot about this game. Last year in one of his rare visit on the chatroom, he once expressed interest in reviving and finishing this project. I told him if he did that, he'd need to introduce more content to the game, make the game experience shorter or salvage the basic sim elements and introduce them in an adventure game, because as a dating sim, the game is broken on so many levels. He then changed his mind and said he'd work on GFW2 instead, and then ZP came and ate him. Fun times.

Is that what happened when he came into the chat and I later asked what he said and you wouldn't tell me?

Also, screw this game. GFW2 would be the most awesome.

Oh Kyo, my question was in regards to posts earlier in the thread that mentioned working with Doreen to pass on messages to the opposing force, or something like that anyways, with the ability to report her to the captain.

Thanks Blueskirt, you were extremely helpful and prompt.

All the games I've played were medicine, I can't get into the bridge, and don't know why I would be able to, and I got the "intelligence leak" message reaaallly early in the game, like in the first or second month. FFFFF

This game took an impressive amount of work, but it will take an impressive amount of more work to be fit for release, I guess!

Figured things out, pretty much everything, at that.

Anyways, in order to get the Doreen thing, you have to get arrested for a period longer than 3 (I think) days by failing to hack. She'll recruit you (if your morals are low). Then you can either help her, or go grab the papers from the spot she tells you and give them to the captain for a medal.

Never figured out how to get on the bridge. Was hoping first officer would open up once she was gone, but no luck.

Anyways, end game stats:

Career path: Engineering
Your rank at end of game: Head Engineer.
Who you married (if anyone): Gloria
Medals received (if any): All 4.
Outcome of away missions: Full credit for all.
Any notable events: Nothing that hasn't been mentioned.
Your ending: Ending 2, Captain of the Poseidon.

Curiously, I had all my stats maxed, Excellent promotion rate, maxed friendships with everyone that was left, all four medals and made sure all my fluctuating stats were maxed going into the ending sequence, but still didn't get Ending 1.

Anyone know the requirements on it?
