QUOTE (Yahtzee @ Mar 4 2005, 05:35 AM)
Forget it, bored of it, can't be arsed tweaking it any more, chalked it up to experience and moved on. We artists are a fickle bunch.

Is there a little tiny chance that you will tell us what your moving on to next?

If not feel free to kick me in the balls and watch me scream like a girl (no offense Jane)

I know it doesn't matter, but since I played the game to the bloody end, I might as well...

Career path: Engineering
Your rank at end of game: Commander
Who you married (if anyone): No one (after Doreen and Ayo left, I figured the pickings were too slim)
Medals received (if any): All four. Took a few tries.
Outcome of away missions: Success, monies, fame
Any notable events: When I tried giving Doreen some deodorant, and she was all like, "keep it, you creep." Memories are made of this.
Your ending: INTERGALACTIC HERO (3 out of 26)

Bugs found: The latter half of Mission 3 doesn't get shown, after Mission 2 the date is November 31 and it gives December 1 a skip, the formula that derives fame is flawed, etc.
Suggestions for better gameplay: Make it an option to marry people who have left the ship. Or that passed-out guy at the bar.

Okay, look, I thought about it, and I've uploaded one last version, version 1.4, and if there aren't any major bugs in this one I'm just going to release it straight off. I finally fixed that bookreading bug, and now the play time is only five months - from June 3rd 2341 to Hooray for Yahtzee Day 2341. This should hopefully make it less boring and more of a challenge to advance.

well 1 major bug wen ur volenteer to sign up to investiagte the distresss signal, got this error message:

An error has occured. Please contact the game author for support as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS.
(ACI version 2.62.772)

(room 18 script line 144)
error: display speech: invalid character specified.

also, the first time round before being taken off to investigate the signal, i was busy purchasing something right before departing. Then i was taken away, and the window to buy items was still there, although i could not interact with it. Made it kinda hard to do anythin.

And this was probably a 1 off thing but i went into the canteen and my character kept repeatedly buying good meals, and wouldnt stop. i couldnt get control back wacko.gif

only other thing is when using the shower or bed, you cant stop. well you can but it stays the same as if u were usin them visually... if that makes sense... which it probably doesnt.

I have always secretly wanted to play a game like this. As I was lurking on the recreation deck in System Shock 2 I wondered what it would be like to have lived on a space station/ship. I have no idea why Yahtzee turned from freelance games and onto adventure games as this game is infinitely better then the Chzo Mythos despite not having any sound.

I would be very grateful if Yahtzee finalized this game... I am sure his fans would as well.

A suggestion for the final version: Make the main character physically transparent so its impossible to click on them.

I found a major bug where you engage with the shower, bed or workout machine and the animation plays on a loop despite you disengaging the shower, bed or workout machine.

"I felt insulted until I realized that the people trying to mock me were the same intellectual titans who claimed that people would be thrown out of skyscrapers and feudalism would be re-institutionalized if service cartels don't keep getting political favors and regulations are cut down to only a few thousand pages worth, that being able to take a walk in the park is worth driving your nation's economy into the ground, that sexual orientation is a choice that can be changed at a whim, that problems caused by having institutions can be solved by introducing more institutions or strengthening the existing ones that are causing the problems, and many more profound pearls of wisdom. I no longer feel insulted because I now feel grateful for being alive and witnessing such deep conclusions from my fellows."

How the hell do you get promoted? I tried everything... I even slept with the captain and still nothing! I cant seem to get anything better then "poor" regardless of how hard or long I work or who I sleep with (3 girls and 1 guy/2 officers and 2 crewmen) or how popular I am (around 75% popularity.)

W-well I like the Chzo Mythos, and this game probably/almost certainly took WAAAAY more coding. And he lost interest! Ages ago!

If I recall correctly, you also have to be fit/knowledgeable when you work, depending on your class. That's an important factor in working "well", as well as having close to maximum energy(/nutrition/amusement?). Working well is preferable for winning promotion favours to working long but poorly.

Of course, it'll take long anyway.

<---normal lurker.

Anyways.

I don't suppose enough people are still actually playing this to warrant a thread to actually discuss the game, strategies, mechanics, ect?

Anyways, so near as I can tell your awarded a certain number of points based on how well you do your job each hour. (Poor, fair, good, excellent, etc). I assume its something like -1, 0, 1, 2 or something along those lines.

Slowly, the more hours you work, the more points you accumulate. At certain margins, your "chance of promotion" goes up.

I'm not sure if your Attribute and Modifier for the attribute have a direct effect on the Promotion rate asides from your performance per hour, or if they just help with that.

I believe medals give an instant point boost to your ability to get promoted, and don't increase the rate at which you get points...

And last, I'm not sure how friends/popularity factors into it at all.

Anyhow. Hope that helps.

Upon further testing, your attributes and modifiers, (Yahtzee mentioned earlier that the game uses the average of the two appropriate ones) effect your work performance.

So, overall mood, and overall attributes, influence the number of points you get per hour for working.

Still not sure if friendship effects this, or if it effects another modifier when you actually attempt to rank up.
