So what if he's the 'chosen one'? He's still just an apprentice, and Palpatine hasn't 'known him since he was 10': they met once. There is NO reason for Palpatine to have any contact whatsoever with Anakin after that brief meeting at the end of TPM. Palpatine is a politician, and a highly important one at that: he should be far too busy with his duties as chief executive of the Republic (not to mention his double life as a Sith Lord) to be wasting time consoling precocious little Jedi Padawans. Like Barend says, it's like a private in the Army going whinging to the US President every time he gets lectured by his commanding officer!
And there is every reason for the Jedi to be suspicious. Wouldn't they wonder why the Supreme Chancellor, who has no reason to be involved with the Jedi at all except when they're giving him advice, is taking such an interest in one particular Padawan - especially when Obi-Wan openly states that he doesn't trust politicians? I hardly think the Jedi would welcome the idea of Palpatine undermining their authority and massaging Anakin's already planet-sized ego.
And to top it all, you say that they don't even really get to know each other until RotS. OK, so why bother including the crap about Palpatine's 'guidance' at all when it doesn't even make sense? Even Lucas himself admits that it was just an afterthought, tacked on at the last minute, and frankly it would have been better left out altogether.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

We don't have to look deeply for it; it jumps up and bites you. No way to ignore that.
And he's the supreme chancellor he can be friends with anybody he wants.
NO HE CAN'T!!! He can't just drop in on Joe Jetpack in the 'burbs to shoot the breeze and toss back a couple of cold ones. For one thing, enemies are everywhere, and if somebody is going to go out of their way to blow up a senator, you can be absolutely sure somebody has got it in for the chancellor.
Whatever "friends" he has aren't friends the way we think of them. They're other legislators and Cabinet-level appointees whom he has known probably for his entire political career. And there's a limit he can and cannot share with them, by protocol and tradition. I serious doubt he's on speaking terms with any member of the Jedi Council beyond his office. If he wouldn't be close to them, why would he be close to some rank-and-file padawan? At this point, Anakin is rank-and-file, not some demigod with his own cult of personality who warrants power and attention in his own right. (Maybe in his own mind.)

My feelings exactly.
If Anakin is the "Chosen One" (whatever the hell that means) who would bring "balance to the Force" (whatever the hell that means) it would probably be even more suspicious if Palpatine showed interest in him. Why isn't "Chosen One" ever mentioned in AotC? Is this a secret kept from Anakin? What is the "Chosen Ones" destiny? How would Palpatine know about it? Has he also obtained a f**king midichlorian blood test? etc etc etc.
So many unanswered questions that are not only important but essential to the plot. This thread has shown, maybe more clearly than any other on this board, how Lucas completely fails to address the main theme of the Prequel Trilogy, the fall of Anakin.
