sorry people i cant find the ACTUAL source for this however I do remember it...back in the day when i was young and had limited money i would spend that limited money at the local comic shop and buy what REAL star wars items i could...( 1977 / 1979 ) the owner was cool and would let me look at stuff as long as i didnt mess it up...i do remember reading this in sci fi maganazine at the time ( no not starlog ) when old GL was asked about how vader came to be the following explanation was given...about 80 percent is what we see however this i think would have been better and make obi-wan not look like a sadist...darth vader WAS ALWAYS DARTH VADER...in name ect...during life as a jedi he slowly turned to the dark side and by a chain of events led to the man would would become empeor...they both knew the jedi would oppose them...not enought to defeat the armed forces but to plunge the galaxy into constant civil war ( as eluded to in ep3 )so a trap was set with the bulk of the jedi order meeting at the main temple which was on a cool world ( not an ice planet ) and the temple was very old and built in / around a geothemal volacano area...streams and creeks of lava and hot water circulated thru the temple and was used for heat light ect. once inside the jedi were ambushed by the empire armed forces and a very bloody battle took place...all were killed...vader looking among the dead could not locate obi-wan and knew he was not there at the time...vader orders the imperial forces to leave and he then waits for his former master obi-wan to arrive...the battle will be personal and one on one...he waits...obi-wan and the surving jedi learn of the slaughter ( they had reversations about the meeting and decided to not go...only a handful a remant )and the others flee into exile however obi-wan knows vader needs to be confronted...this happens at the temple...the fight is somewhat long but as the two battle they go deeper into the temple areas that have been neglected and old in need of repair...during the fight vader loses footing due to rotten rock ledging and falls into a stream of lava...obi-wan attempts to help but is driven back by the heat...he stands there looking for vader...vader is seriouly injured but burned not chopped up as in ep3...vader using his darklord power of the force first mask his life signatute and obi-wan believes him dead...obi-wan now leaves as imperial forces arrive ( they saw the ship obi-wan came in ) vader seriouly injured uses the force to will himself alive until medical help arrives...vader is transported to a medical ship were surgery is performed...vader now becomes part man part machine due to his injuries and placed in the armour of a dark knight...thus vader is born...vader then is given a group of troops to hunt down the remaining jedi...thats why moff tarkin stated in the future vader was the last one of the jedi order...as for as obi-wan giving luke his fathers light sabre and saying a jedi by the name of darth vader killed his father...baby thats what excatly happened...in 1977 old GL had vader and luke father AS TWO SEPERATE PEOPLE...luke shared no biology with vader...if anything his father and vader were good friends...lucas i think went ape crap with the money he made in 1977 and just after that made up crap as he went... sad.gif

The original Star Wars novel had a preface (not sure if that's the right word) that gave a short history of the fall of the republic. Something about rotting from the inside like an apple. Is anyone able to post it up here? Sorry, sold all my SW stuff after TPM. crying.gif

Lucas freely admits that Anakin and Darth Vader were originally two separate people. He says that there were several different alterations the story went through in the beginning. In fact, I heard Lucas say in an interview that Luke was at one point going to be a midget. (!)

But...do you guys seriously think the story is better if Vader is not Luke's father? That's the point that lends alot of depth to Vader's character. Forget the prequels. Without the twist of Vader being Luke's father, the OT would not be as great as it is.

WHAT ARE YOU GETTING PAY FROM OLD GL...look the series would have been better WITHOUT vader being lukes father...the series could have been that obi-wan trained BOTH anakin skywalker and darth vader....both could have been very close friends and vader could have been the god father or step father should anakin and or his wife were killed...maybe even vader witness the birth and early years of luke skywalker...felt how strong in the force he would become...thats why he would later agree with the emperor that the son of skywalker must not become a jedi...like i say GL is a nut case....i would hate to work for the man...

Not a bad suggestion, father! I just think the choice that Lucas went with was more compelling and produced a more interesting Darth Vader. It's a matter of personal preference more than anything else.

I *wish* George Lucas was paying me! >.<

Supposedly, Lucas and Speilberg were in the same class at UCLA taught by Jerry Lewis about the science behind screen comendy (Lewis being such an expert and all). This would explain the magnetic hold all the forced campy laughs have on Lucas. I also think his divorce from Marica Lucas when she got it on with a Skywalker Ranch hand left him a very embittered man and he exacted revenge on the moviegoing public in the form of the PT. You can almost bet there will be a PT deluxe edition with added scenes and effects in theatres in five years time. My suggestion to GL is to CGI his rotund daughter in Natalie Portman's place, because he's not getting anymore of my cash. And if I were Speilberg, I wouldn't be going around and be too proud about the supposed "contribution" into the way the final lightsaber duel was orchestrated.

*blinks* What does that have to do with Darth Vader's character?

I just think the choice that Lucas went with was more compelling and produced a more interesting Darth Vader.....can you please explain that to me...it would be just as compelling that vader was a "brother" to anakin....so much so that if it werent for the jedi code the two could have been view by others to be homosexual at the least and at the most vader screwing padme...look all cerditbality was lost in empire when vader stated he was luke father...i would say this if multi-chin lucas wanted to go with that line, then vader should have become the step-father via anakins death...( later to be learned of obi-wan to be a set up murder...maybe anakin discovered the plot of vader and the emperor and was killed )then the events of ep3 could go ahead...padme dying because of two broken hearts...one for anakin the other vader...she loved them both ...anakin sexual vader platonic...now thats for a romatic story line...like i say old GL is an assshole...i can write better than him...
