Watched Terry Gilliams "Brazil" a few nites ago on telly (taped it actually seeing it was on at midnite etc) for the 3rd time.

Movie Description
Sci-Fi, 1985, 124 minutes.

Brazil is a surrealistic nightmare vision of a “perfect” future where technology reigns supreme. Everyone is monitored by a secret government agency that forbids love to interfere with efficiency.
Jonathon Pryce and Robert De Niro star with Michael Palin and Bob Hoskins in this chilling black comedy directed by former Monty Python member Terry Gillian.
When a daydreaming bureaucrat becomes unwittingly involved with an underground superhero and a beautiful mystery woman, he becomes the tragic victim of his own romantic illusions.
This offbeat fantasy blends biting humour with pointed commentary to come up with an unforgettable look at a delightfully dastardly tomorrow.

Well what can I say about this movie other than its its .. so cool!
It's wierd, original, cryptic, a parody, creepy, shocking, tragic, and down right hilarious at times. And no CGI!

It's got that weird sort of gothic Monty Python style to it .. even though its Terry Gilliams (12 monkeys, Fear and Loathing in LV) film and Micheal Palin only acts in the movie. If you've seen The Holy Grail, Meaning of Life and the Time Bandits, then you'll know what I mean.

Needless to say if you havent seen it b4 then the first time you see it you'll probably hate it or simply 'not get it' ... just like I did!
Reason being that its not meant to be an 'obvious' film. I reckon its 'cos we get fed all this retarded american shit yr after yr. So we expect films to be like a Mcdonalds Happy Meal. Strangely enuf Terry Gilliam is an 'American'!?! rolleyes.gif

Anyway I googled it the other day and I found out there is an interesting story about the battle over the release of this film. A movie heavyweight who is probably more inept and arrogant than a 100 George Lucas's re-edited the film and desperately wanted to turn it into shit. here!

After reading all u can say is 'typical'. The U.S distributors even wanted to release an edited version of the film, completely removing the brilliant, quirky little soundtrack and dub it with pop-rock music for the 'teens'!
I suggest you guys read it even if you dont like the movie as it gives a great insight into why so many movies
nowerdays are BAD!

"Brazil" is quite brilliant in its eccentric way.

Unfortunately, true talent is always oppressed in Hollywood, especially when the vision of the talent does fit the vision of the Hollywood money making process.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

BRAZIL is most frequently named as my favorite movie. Occasionally I'll say other things, but I always come back to BRAZIL.

The box set contains the 90-minute Sid Sheinberg edit. It's so bad, it's brilliant!

The set also contains the final edit ofthe film from Mr Gilliam, representing a combination of the final US version and a later European edit. With audio commentary, a documentary shot diring the filming, and the famous "Battle for Brazil" documentary as well.

Best boxed set (of a single film) ever!

BUY IT!
