folk who are disappointed with the prequels are we in the minority?

I really think that it's split down the middle with SW fans, I don't think the forums are a guage to how many people may like or hate them as JYAMG pointed out. I guess the point is moot because people who hate the PT will probably see the next film hoping against hope that they will get a movie that can carry the moniker of Star Wars. I think I'll wait until it comes out on video though.

I've also been to some movie review websites aabout 60% of them actually have a positive opinion of the movies. I personally don't know. I hate the movies now and I don't think anyone can change my opinion.
As for the Indiana Jones movies... I've only watched The Temple of Doom and I fully agree it was a bad movie. I always thought of Indiana Jones as a big, tough, unstoppable hero, and TOD showed me otherwise.

I agree with Mad Rabbit. It's pretty evenly divided. I wouldn't know from the circles I travel in. As far as I'm concerned, everyone dislikes the prequels. Of course, as far as I know everyone voted for Kerry in this past election and we know that that's not the case.
Jariten is certainly in the minority here and I would be in the minority on any of the many gusher forums.
I think that there is a fringe 10% on either end that either love or hate the prequels. The remaining 80% is divided on their feelings but are not quite as militant as we are about it. They are perhaps the sensible ones seeing they're only some dumb movies about spaceships.

But I was pleasantly surprised to laugh my ass off, once anyway.
I taped the clone wars a while back. half hour of back to back shorts.
Never got around to viewing it. Couldn't care less.
(I'm sure there are many CW fans out there, but if you have to prop up a six film series' MAIN character by developing him in a three minute CARTOON, that's not much to celebrate.)

Don't know how we got to Jones, but I'd say the M. Falcon is next to unstoppable, with the same "skin of your teeth" qualities Indy exhibits.
back to prequels: I've been nothing but disappointed with prequel ships. The SR-71, the lunar module and command module of Obi-wan, the space sail. Yet I realize the prequels are spoilt. Bringing back the M. Falcon for Ep 3 would not appease me, thank you very much.

I hadn't paid much attention to the ships of the prequels, since they're all either very silly/gaudy/ridiculous.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Mr Ford had what can we say... um... a little digestion condition. It would be ungentlemanly to elaborate. As he couldn't be away from the bathroom for long, he asked Mr Spielberg if there was any way they could shorten the scene. And that is what Mr Spielberg came up with.
Which reminds me, I ought to put my 50 WON's worth in on Han Solo vs Indiana Jones.

But I am in a minority of a minority. I like the Original Star Wars, and don't really like the rest of the PT or OT very much. But then I quite like the Phantom Menace more than most of you do, but then cannot stand Clones. So am I a hater or gusher??
Another thing that JYAMG got me thinking about is movies which the majority think are terrific, but which are crap. Titanic definitely comes to mind, (tied for the most academy awards ever), but Indianna Jones and the Last Crusade was really really bad. It sits with me like ROTJ does - way too much stupid slapstick, and way too much Spielbergisms: ie, standing on the big X, but conveniently not noticing until the camera notices. Or the stupid red faced fat kid in the opening. Or the magic box on the train. Or the plane in the tunnel. Do people really like Last Crusade, or only in comparison with Temple of Doom?
And the very worst movie ever made is ET the extra terrestrial. But I have never heard anybody every say anything other than the highest praise for it. Now it is plot wise, direction wise, logic wise, collectively and scene by scene, uttely reprehensible in every way.
Anyway, back to Star Wars. I watched the trailers on the DVD I borrowed the other day, and the Original Star Wars Trailers are the best part of the whole collection. That is how it all should be, just like those first trailers.

It's the latter. And it's certainly understandable the first time you watch it. It's like "Wow! They reversed the damage!"
Which is true... they did reverse the damage. But they never re-captured the magic of Raiders. Perhaps if it wasn't full of slapstick humour, dumb jokes, it would have helped. The other problem is Harrison Ford just seemed too damn old in the movie. The stupid ties didn't help either. Also, Marion Ravenwood not being in the film damages it too. It doesn't seem right that Indy would have left her. Nor does it seem right that Marcus Brody, who was a pretty level headed guy in the first film, is now a bumbling idiot. Rather than seeming like a sequel, this film comes across more like a television spin-off.
It's enjoyable enough but I find it very hard to watch without ejecting the DVD and putting on Raiders. In fact, I had the DVD box set, which was annoying... I only wanted Raiders of the Lost Ark but the bastards wanted more of my money.
The Temple of Doom, obviously, was thrown in the bin as soon as I pulled the wrapping off the box. I kept The Last Crusade even though I didn't really want in the first place... but after seeing it a couple of times, I thought I'd seen it enough so I gave it away to a good friend of mine. Whenever I watched The Last Crusade, there was this scene where they put a reference to Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was very cute and clever.... but when I got there, I just thought "OH! I'd really rather watch that instead!" and would swap the DVDs there and then.
